Yes, P said Frostie was going like a train, giving her the best ride of her life. Looking back at the video, the ground before the fence dropped away, the mare didn't read it and when she put down to take off, there was nothing there and in the split second of hesitation, they hit the fence hard. P thinks they were going with a lot of speed and that's probably what saved them, a slower fall and she'd have stayed in the plate. That's P's first ever horse fall :( Frostie seems fine - bright and happy and most importantly, sound as of tonight.

We saw Phoebe and Frostie being escorted off the course, both appeared to be walking fine. I also saw Phoebe (not to talk to) some time later, and she seemed to have a sore neck from the way she was moving - but from what I've heard it was a nasty fall.

Wishing them both a peaceful night and not too much stiffness in the morning.

I watched the fall with Nicola happen, it was pretty scary. McFly was galloping well but with his head down and looked to be pulling quite hard, N checked him about 6 strides out but it made no difference to him he only took off to about 3ft and ploughed through the fence. He slid probably over 5 metres on his stomach and Nicola catapulted off him onto her head. Glad to hear she is OK (ish) wa snot very impressed to see people running over to and I quote 'get a bit of the action' police didn't hold anyone back until she was taken away on a stretcher hidden by paramedics.

Fingers crossed for a quick and full recovery, I was next to the fence too and the fall looked horrendous. When we realised she clearly wasn't getting up we moved away...just as everyone else was crowding round???? It's disgraceful. Sending lots of vibes to her

Unfortunately that kind of thing is a horrible part of human nature, for some people anyway. I was at Burghley many years ago when there was a really awful fall and people were RUNNING through the woods to get to the scene. wtf?

Best wishes to Nicola. We were at the fence and McFly came down on his side after a half-rotation and her head came down very hard. Happened to my neighbour and she was in an induced coma for 6 weeks so I hope the news that Nicola has been talking to doctors is true.
We walked away once it was clear she was not getting up and the paramedics were treating her, but there were crowds of people running across the course over to gawp. As we looked back several police on foot and horseback had to force the crowds to move away - pathetic!

If the reports of gawpers is true just goes to show WHO go to these events, obviously not true horsey people! Have known Nicola since she was 11yo and I would have walked away unless there was anything I could have done to help the situation.I still remember being at a p to p at 10 yo, a horse came down at the final fence and didn't get up, I was crushed in the rush of people going to "have a look", lot of sick people out there!

Thats super news if all is o.k, fingers crossed, we were at the fence before and nearly got crushed in the rush.......we departed very rapidly back to the car for our picnic, there were also a lot of people on the course/walking back with very sullen/worried faces and it was a very tense hour on the park i felt! Massive vibes to her and family.

Kit thanks for the news on P and Frosty too, saw that one, what a bouncy pair they were, i'm so pleased they're both o.k, they looked super smart going round, what a pair ;-)

glad to hear this. We were at 22,23 and 24 when it happened. Stupid woman next to me was photographing the air ambulance landing and taking off, how bizarre and freakish!

We were at Burghley too,
We're friends of the Guy that does the horse ambulances.
Interesting bit of info - the screens are always available on the horse ambulance but they are not part of the "normal" kit on the medic ones!
So if you're a human you are gawped at and if you're equine you get privacy!
