Does anyone tow with a Nissan Navara 2.5 and are they any good ?

Looking for something capable of pulling two large horses in an Ifor Williams 510.

Thanks

I had one for 10 years, it was brilliant, towed the 510 with ease with 2 large horses in it. Not a thirsty vehicle, and extremely robust, however............. my con rod went at 110,000miles, destroyed my engine. So i had a replacement 2nd hand engine put in. the garage did an absolute bodge job and within 12 months it had died completely. So watch out, the problem was solved apparantly after 2005 so a younger model should be ok. I tried the Mitsubuishi and the Ford, and the Toyata equivalents all brand new and decided the Navarra was the best of them all.

One of ours had a new engine too. I was told that as long as you have the pil changed regularly it will be ok.

Had an l200 before and that was dire, thirsty, no good off road and also required a new engine, at 70,000 miles. I do not recommend a Mitsubishi after this!

Certainly capable but I just sold mine as I hated it!
What age are you looking at? The older ones have massive engine issues (conrod goes through side of engine at anywhere between 35-150k!!) so if it`s an older one with original engine I wouldn`t touch it with someone elses barge pole!
We replaced the engine in ours but I found it wallowy, huge (can`t park anywhere, too long when trailer on (I have a Richardson Supreme Ultra which is even longer than 510s) and VERY expensive to fix when other things went wrong (frequently!)

I just bought a 55 plate Terrano van to replace it and I am in love! 3.0l with a 3t towing capacity, perfect. SWB makes life soooooooooo much easier

But on a positive note they are easy to sell on if you don`t like it. Mine was sold for export within 30 seconds of it being on gumtree!!

ETA mine was 02 Plate

Previously had an Isuzu Trooper but they don't make them any more and heard bad reviews about the newer Isuzu's.

Would probably be going for an 05 plate or newer.

Yes would be towing under B & E.

Thanks

Piccy of my new truck, I think she`s sexy, particularly the orange light!

55 plate, 100k, one owner from new with full nissan (every 6,000) service history, A complete steal at just under 4k!

We don`t need it as a 'multi use' vehicle tho. I use this for towing & my business. We also have a 'family' car & My husband has his 'fun' 2 seater sports car.

We have an 08 plate navara, its great to tow with but its had a never ending list of problems. Most of the work was carried out under warranty, and i think the total is standing at 21k. its now out of warranty and we are looking to change as just had to replace the diff :(

I have a navara, its brill.

Tows our 510 with 2 big horses no issue. Its that good you dont even realise there is anything behind you. Unlike my previous ML.

Not thirsty, and has an open back to chuck in hay/shavings etc.

Great bit on it that moves you from 2 wd, 4wd to low 4wd. The low 4WD is very useful when driving over muddy fields. ( apologies for my lack of technical knowledege )

I tow with one and love it. Had a Sorrento before and the navara is bigger, comfort, and cheaper to run. Only tow one in a bateson but I don't have any trouble on our steep lanes. It has loads of kit too. The OH loves it too.

I had a 08 plate from new most unreliable vehicle I have ever run these vehicles are not up to hard work, and it was not helped by polesworth garage who were truly awful to try to deal with So I moved to Sturgesses of Leicester who were far better. But I have to say for all its problems it never left me at the road side, just stuck in fields truly awful vehicle off road too big and lardy.
1 Drive shaft failures x3
2 Front diff failure (Allegedly) garage couldnt tell me what was wrong with it!
3 water repeatedly getting into FWD electrics so no FWD was told by the garage I shouldnt have got it wet and Muddy WTF
4 Head warped it hadnt been properly tightened down in the Factory
5 Problems with electric front seats and seat upholstery
6 Alloy wheels cracking

The L200 Barbarian I have now is a far superior vehicle and has the option of FWD with open centre dif so you can tow in FWD for safety and the transmission doesnt wind up.

we had the same problem with a dealer.... :( the abs sensor is now playing up to add insult to injury and we refuse to take it back to our local dealer as they are utterly hopeless... put brakes on upside down so when wheels on full lock, brake cable was leaking, and when we took it in to get the alloys changed, they either forgot to tighten the nuts or had overtightened them, we got 4 miles down the road and had to stop with the vibration.... the wheel only had one nut left holding it on !!!! need i say they got a mouthful when we went back.
The number of problems its had is shocking, its had more work done and parts replaced than my 10 yr old rusting vectra in the 4 yrs we've had both !!! OH was looking at the new ford pick up to change as parts for the navara are shockingly expensive !!!
Personally i wouldnt touch anything by Nissan with someone elses barge pole

Neighbour has one, wished he never seen it, MEGA problems, one being the conrod coming out the side of the engine on the motorway, cost stupid money to sort, now it's got more major problems, he isn't a happy bunny :(

Oh dear I was fancying one of these, think I will stick with old Suzi Trooper. Its just a shame she's 17yrs old now and looking a little jaded. However, she has just got another 12months MOT, worth her weight in gold!
