I am looking at a Nissan qashqai tekna 1.6 17 plate to tow a iw401 and a 550kg horse.. trying to get a definitive answer on towing capacity is nigh on impossible. does anyone tow with this combo? Is it ok? I want to keep the car as economical as possible - any recommended combinations happily received! It’s a minefield

We had a 1.6 2012 Quashqai and it only had a 1200kg towing capacity, lovely car but not for towing horses. We used it to tow a big trailer to get hay but wouldn’t have wanted to tow horses with it. You need to look on parkers etc for the towing capacity.

For a reliable and economical family car that will also tow look no further than the Skoda Octavia estate 4x4. Really good tow car (up to 2000kg limit), returns 55mpg on a non towing motorway run, easily takes our two 6ft plus lads as rear seat passengers on a long run.

When we were looking a few years ago the Qashqai got lots of awful reviews.

Hi, I was in the market recently for an everyday jeep that would also pull one horse when needed. I got a Hyundai Santa Fe (towing capacity of 2500kg). I've yet to get the towbar on, but it's a lovely jeep to drive and not too hard on fuel. It came highly recommended as a towing vehicle.

I’ve got a Renault kadjar which is the same car just under the Renault badge and absolutely no way would I tow with it. I’d be very surprised if it has a capacity of higher than 1,200kg so you’d be hard stretched to legally tow with it anyway.

Is that petrol or diesel? Trying to persuade husband to get something that will tow a decent sized caravan. The berlingo we have can only tow 1000kg which means a v small possibly no toilet caravan. And I need the toilet! It’s my age you know. 🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I love mine but no way will it tow.
As said above skoda octavia would be my vote. I didn't go for that as don’t need to tow and its too big for me personally.

Ours is a 15 plate Octavia Diesel 2.0 TDI CR Scout 4x4 5dr, which has a 2000kg tow limit. Think the petrols have a lower towing limit. There's quite a variation even among the diesels.
