You should be fine towing 1, am sure they can tow 2 though i am not an expert. Nissans have always been really reliable and great workhorses for me

O/h likes his and it was a godsend in the snow.

We have towed with it once; an Equitrek trailer (which are heavy!) with Dom (who is also heavy!!) and it was ok. Wouldn't have wanted to do steep hills in it though.

It's fab for getting loads of feed or bedding though as the back seats drop completely flat.

Ours has been fab, we've had it for 3 years now and have clocked up a lot of miles with it, with no real problems.

We tow a bateson with a 17hh horse and it tows great, never had any trouble.

As a car and a 4x4 vehicle in the snow - great. But....No, no, no for towing! You will be towing over the recomended 80% of the load capacity. I tried towing my lightweight Bateson and my 1 x 17h, 560kg horse in it and it struggles, the clutch went after a year (it was a brand new vehicle) and it really felt as if the trailer and the weight behind me was controlling the car. You'd be much better off with a Nissan Terrano (3000kg towing capacity, X trail only 2000kg) or Pathfinder if your looking at Nissan's

Had mine for 3 years and drove high mileage with it, loved it to bits, used to tow an Ifor Williams 510 with my 17hh horse in it and it was brilliant, only sold it because Oh offered to buy me a lorry and car, but the Xtrail went to a friend who absolutely loves it too.

A garage in the midlands where we got our Hyandui Santa Fe from had one in. We asked about it and they said that in the last 2 years they had sold 3 - all 3 had come back with problems :S Havent heard anything else about them really though. Just so you know all the dials (speedomenter, Rev gage etc) are in the middle of the dash board, not in front of the driver. So people really hate it as they cant just glance down but others find it ok.

Road tested one. Last time I will volunteer to use one. Horrible ride I got really car sick and then it got stuck on the verge so fairly useless off road. Ditto towing - not legal for anything but light loads

reading this with interest, as wierdly enough we have decided to buy two nissans this yar, a pathfinder for hubby and towing (best friend/YO has one it is fab!) and an X-Trail for me to use for getting around, to the yard/work etc.

We bought an X-Trail a few years ago as its seemed a good compromise between 4x4 capability and ease of driving. Sadly, it fell short on economy, performance and towing capacity, and is possibly the worst car we have ever owned. Horrible. Have had two Discoveries for towing and despite them not having Japanese reliability, find them infinitely preferable. Really, really would not recommend the X-Trail.

Just to add my 2penneth of personal experience with an X-Trail

I bought a 2005 plate in 2007 with 20,000 miles on the clock.

Long story short is we had it for 12 months, but it was only on the road for 11. It had loads of workdone to it to try and put it right including a new intercooler and turbo plus something to do with timing chains? Luckily all this was covered by the Nissan manufacturers warrantee. It still wasnt 'right' and was leaking oil on our driveway and still making a high pitched whistling sound which the guys at Nissan agreed-'wasnt right'.

We just despaired with it and Nissans promises to 'fix it' and got shot of it as soon as the warrantee expired. Shame really because I actually really liked it.

So personally I sadly cannot reccomend the X-Trail.

Girl on the yard has a 53plate with around 60,000 on the clock and she's had no problems with hers-I think we were just unlucky.
