Nizoral is an anti fungal. Mud fever is caused by bacteria. I hadn't heard of its use; but I struggle to see how it could work in true mud fever. Might work for a secondary fungal infection?

I use coatex shampoo. Believe is antibacterial, antifungal and v mild and kind to skin.

Mudfever has some properties of a fungus and some of a bacteria.

As said some mud fever is fungal driven .
I have never use nizoral but we use head and shoulders with really good results .

We used to use Malaseb dog fungal shampoo for mud fever where I worked. The instructions said to dilute, but we would scrub on neat, leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

It was very effective, recommended by a vet. I guess the deviance from the written instructions was because the product was designed for dogs?

I believe Nizoral is similar, but I am sure a quick phone call to the vet would confirm.

Malaseb certainly cleared up mud fever that other preparations did not touch. After it was dried well we would smear with Flammazine, also as recommended by the vet.

Mud fever can be fungal and bacterial. I used Nizoral for ring worm on a horse and he had a really bad allergic reaction to it, so be careful.
