A little bit of a feel sorry for myself post! Well, my normally first time to take mare just will not get pregnant. After losing her son in february and her injuring herself I thought it would be the perfect oportunity.. But in true horsey style she just isn't playing ball.
Really, really gutted but life goes on I guess and it could be worse. I was just looking forward to having another of her babys so much and was my glimmer of hope after losing JJ.
However, injury looks nicely healed so back to work she is and a long hard slog to get the last 4 months worth of 24/7 living off her big flabby body. Nothing ever goes to plan with horses but I have learnt this year to just be thankful when they are still with me.
Not much point to this, just a moan

aww good luck in the future, the only thing to remember is that she will only foal when she and her body is ready just like us.

xx

Awww - sorry to hear that but, as you say, try to focus on the positives!
I'm sure when the time is right then good news will come your way!

Are you using the same stallion as previously?

My sister's mare wouldn't get pregnant to our chosen stallion, put her to a different one and hey presto, pregnant first time!

I had a no goer last year when trying to breed from my girl, i was absolutely gutted. She has had 6 foals, the last being about 10years ago. I wanted a horse for the future, she is my perfect horse, but it wasnt to be, too many complications involved to risk my girl

Sorry i just joined in instead of helping, in time these things seem to work themselves out somehow

Thanks guys, yes we tried a change of husband the last time and it was looking really promising as no pooling etc this time... She had pooled copious amounts of fluid before even being covered for some reason and pooled after covering and AI.. Some things just aren't meant to be and there is only so far I am prepared to risk my horse so as long as the leg holds out she is back to comptetion which she loves and there is loads of stuff I want to do with her next year anyway.
I have another 5 year old that I will take to the stallion next year so that I don't lose the stud fee and she is beautiful but I thought she was a bit young this year...
Keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason, just not sure what they are yet!!

Are you going down the vet route of jabs and flushing for AI?

If so may be worth just waiting until she is in season of her own account and using fresh semen.

No she came in off her own accord, she only had one AI at the start due to the pooling but then I requested natural after that as that is how she has always been covered before.
She didn't pool at all this last time with her new husband but I am not going to try again this year as I don't really want a foal any later. She has had a good few attempts and she is getting fatter and fatter so I have sid enough is enough... next year I will have a rethink and see what I decide.
