Well I've gone and entered Tarquin for his first ever show. I'm only doing in-hand classes as we still have not established a canter where I am not launched into orbit and he has never been to a show before, so at 5 years old I think it will be a bit mind blowing for him.
I'm really interested to see what the judges will think of him as everyone at home that sees him says he's a star.
I have taught him to trot in hand and hopefully I can keep up. He likes to do his Welsh Cob stallion inpression and no doubt the excitement of the show will bring it on.

I have got all prepared, will not be unloading him without his bridle and long lunge line as I expect that for the first 10 minutes he will be a nutter.
Been really down about our progress recently

and hopefully this will help. I just want him to behave and if we come home empty handed ok as long as he stands and performs I don't care.

I hope you have a great time & that Tarquin will manage to contain himself & behave at least reasonably well.....though a bit of the old 'Look at me, I'm a Welsh cob stallion' won't go amiss in the ring I guess, as long as he isn't too OTT! lol

I'm sure he'll be a good boy but to be on the safe side, make sure the first thing you do as you climb out of your lorry is to shove a hat on your head & a pair of gloves on your hands!

Good luck & don't forget to let us know how you get on! *Sending whispered 'Good boy' vibes to Tarquin!* xx

Thanks, will do. Was considering putting a red ribbon in his tail to keep people away, although he doesn't kick. But don't want this to make him look bad. Don't have any green ribbon to show he's a novice, I know it's a hunting thing. Hopefully will get some good photos.

Yes forgot to add that gloves ( I have still got rope burns from lungeing in an open field last week) and a proper hat (sorry no beaglers for this one, although it is a nice velvet one) go without saying where Mr T is concerned. He's not a bad lad but gets very excitable and is very sharp. Methinks point to pointing mare x Welsh cob stallion = handsome nutter.

Not sure how things stand with ribbons these days but I wouldn't go for a red one personally, no point landing him with an unjustified dodgy reputaion at his first outing (you know what people are like, they only remember the bad! lol).
A green one would be more appropriate (got a local Dunelm Mill shop, they'll have some?) but haven't seen a ribbon of any colour on a horse/pony in years to be honest!

I did consider putting a red one on BB for the HT, as she can be a real nasty piece of work but eventually decided against it in the end, as if some nit decided to ride into her, she'd instantly get the blame! (MD knows to keep her distance & how to ride her safely & sensibly & as it turned out, it wasn't remtely 'crowded' anyway!)

Just keep smiling & patting Tarquin & saying 'What a good baby, clever baby' in a very loud voice! lol

go go go girl and relax and BREATH. so i was told yesterday on my 2nd show. enter the class before the one you would like a rosette for, to get the excitement out of him and the nerves out of you, then deep breaths and go for the class you really want and make it count! shows are fun, rosettes are a bonus.

Thanks TWH I am doing Inhand Hunter, then large M&M (including partbreds) and just for fun Most Handsome Gelding. All for fun really but am most interested in what they make of him as a Hunter really as my aim for next year is Small Hunter at the Royal Norfolk.

Lovely pics of 'the boys', they are both gorgeous as I'm certain I've commented on before! lol
Such lovely, kind faces - they could only be owned by a 'nice' person, as they both have that unmistakeable 'happy with my lot in life' expression that tells it like it is!

I'm sure you'll have a great day!

Cheers JAK although often in Murphy's case, we call him 'smug horse'. He knows exactly which side his bread is buttered and has a whole reportoire of 'looks' to calm me down. Tarquin, only has two at the moment, the 'what are you doing lying on the ground' look or 'WTF is that!' usually toward any human being that isn't me.
I like to think my boys are happy as they could be, they are the most important thing in my world.
