Thought this deserved a thread of it's own!! The course change this year has worked a treat! What does everybody else think? :)

WELL DONE AURORAS ENCORE!!
And congratulations on anyone who betted.

Normally don't like the race but enjoyed this years! Well done to the people who have worked to make it safer! X

Great news - I might actually watch it now, guessing it'll be online somewhere? What were the changes to the course this year?

Fab, shows the safety improvements have worked and the race won't take another media bashing :D congrats to the winner but I'm more made up that there's been no fatalities or injuries.

I'm not sure how much the course change has had an effect, impossible to tell from one race IMHO, but glad they all came home :)

I actually felt relaxed watching it this year which was brilliant :D

I'm sure it'll be online. They made the fences lower and they came apart very easy. They started I think 400m away from their normal start so it was quiet for the horses. Many of the jockeys pulled up when their horse tired instead of kicking on, and thus reducing the risk of a collapse or heart attack!!

Brilliant , lovely for Sue and Harvey Smith too! Even nicer that everyone got home safe.
:D:D
It was fun to watch this year!!

:mad::mad::mad::mad:
I missed it:-( Been waiting at home for a roofer who surprise, surprise has not bothered to turn flipping well up OR PHONE...:mad::mad::mad:

this is the very first year I've not bet, or not watched and now look..I did neither..& its the exact race i always wanted it to be. Brilliant tho for everyone getting round & home safe..& I dare say no less a race for it!

Defo felt more relaxed watching it than other years and sooo happy there was no injuries or deaths. :D
Think the change to the start made a difference and they seemed more spread out :)

Sorry Parachute but are you implying that jockeys haven't pulled up before on a tired horse?! What tosh.

Great race and I'm glad no injuries to either jockeys or horses but the truth will be next year and the year after. You can never make an assumption on one race. Atmosphere seemed very flat though...

I'm sorry Teapot, I can't say i've ever personally seen a jockey pull up in the Grand National, didn't once mention it'd never happened before though. I just said, alot of jockeys did this year and to me, it would appear more than normal. Although, I can't really comment as I hand on heart cannot say i've seen a horse be pulled up on the National before. :o

Ditto this. Great race but you can't say that the 'improvements' are what stopped injuries and falls. Only time will tell if they really have made it a safer race.

Atmosphere seemed ridiculously flat!!

Off the top of my head, at least four were pulled up last year as just one example.

I'd rather the atmosphere be flatter and the course safer than like it was before, but that's my opinion (not starting an argument) :o:o
Personally, the course seemed a lot different and there were no deaths/injuries, I know we can't really comment on the first year but I think it was better than previously :p
So glad they all came home safe and a bonus that I won at 80/1 so very pleased.
:)

Congratulations!!! :D

Can anyone please tell me how you know that there are no injuries? Some of the possible tendon injuries would not show fully for 48 hours. Some of the horses may well already be lame but not badly enough to stop them going home. I hope that you are correct, but I don't see how it can possibly be said at this stage that there are no injuries.

Thank goodness there were no deaths.

Channel 4 put it on their site, as did the Guardian paper. I know they can't be 100% sure on the injury front but at least there were no deaths or serious injuries, if any.

I think the softer core to the fences made a difference.

Whatever the reason though, fantastic outcome with every horse back safe and sound! (At this initial stage)

I suppose future races will tell more about the changes.

Take that haters :p :D
Fantastic race as it always is and many congratulations to the winner he had a great ride!

You are so sick. I'm horrified that you're hoping for injuries. If there had been ANY major injuries, the horses would have been boxed off in an ambulance.

I stopped watching the GN a few years ago because the sight of the horses crashing to the ground made me cringe and it saddened me that they had died.
I think horses will always have accidents and die where ever they are, even in their own field and on the hunting field so I'm a bit philasophical about that.
I'm glad none died this year but I'm not sure that horses died in every GN prior to this year anyway, so let wait and see in subsequent years as to whether it is the new safety measures that have saved lives and injuries.

She didn't say that she hoped for injuries, she was asking how we can be SURE that there wasn't any......

Animal rights people are on sky news complaining about the two deaths earlier in the week. There is just no pleasing some people!

One of those two horses dropped dead (heart attack?) so I don't think they can even include that one in their stats!!
