No fill turnouts for warmth?

I don't often use rugs but I use no fill amigos if it's consistently wet and windy. I've never had leakage problems with them and never had a cold horse either. I can't see that being soaking wet in the wind is going to keep a horse warmer than being dry in the wind and rain. I don't want them getting rain scald either.
50g and 100g fill turnouts didn't used to exist, I think there's a bit of marketing going on.

I have a Shires Tempest and it has never leaked, even in sustained heavy rain. I'm very impressed with it, as it is only 600D.

I have recently bought one of these and really rate it. I bought it about a month ago when day after day we had torrential cold showers followed by sunshine then cold rain again and I worried about my 28yr old in the dramatic temperature changes. This rug was great for those days. Even on a day when we had heavy rain all day it didn't leak, and he stayed warm throughout.

He will soon be moving into his Mark Todd filled 'Autumner' rug but his Tempest no fill gets a big thumbs up from me.

I only ever use a no fill on my cob. If I didn't use anything I would never be have time to ride mid week after escaping wet mud off him but if I put him in anything warmer he gets sweaty.
