No interest in riding

The weather has been terrible all this week. It’s been very cold and very windy. I have no interest in riding lately I don’t now why i am feeling like these.

ditto.... i've not ridden for weeks..... i need his saddle checking and cant get my fitter out at the moment so he's having a couple of months off. wont do either of us any harm. I know lots of my friends are feeling the same so dont beat yourself up about it. x

loads of my friends aren't riding, or only riding a day or two a week. it's a hobby so I wouldn't stress it, everyone in the same boat.

I've sat on one of my horses 5 times in 2021. Every time bareback for a plod around the block. The others haven't even been sat on. I've redefined it as "time off" for them and when the future looks a bit brighter (either because it's sunny or because I can start training again), we'll all get fit again!

I’ve given up for now. I will ride when I feel like it and not when I don’t. My horse can cope well with this as long as he still gets a run about but I just don’t see the point in riding when I’m so cold I’m shivering and tense, I won’t have a good ride and if I don’t he won’t. I’ll wait til it’s not 0°

Oh, thank god I'm not the only one. I've been feeling guilty for only riding two or three times a week - hacking at the weekends and a lesson during the week. I've kept telling myself I'll ride more when the weather improves but still feeling terrible.

I've been a fair weather rider since covid. Zero motivation when there is nothing to work towards. Thankfully my horse isn't too explosive when he's not ridden for a while and he get good daily turnout so I'm pretty sure he's happy.

I am feeling really unmotivated by the weather which isn't like me, I'm usually super motivated and cannot wait to ride. But it's such a slog when it's so cold. I have some health stuff going on that generally means that I can end up quite poorly if I get too cold so that naturally puts me off. My limit is about 0 degrees.

I desperately want to ride this evening but it's due to be -3 by the time I get to the yard so I suspect that won't be happening.

I'm also barely riding at the moment. It's either chucking it down or freezing cold and the wind at the moment is just horrible. I was trying to force myself to go out to keep him ticking over but made an official decision a few weeks ago to have a bit of a break. It's taken the pressure off me and I feel much better for it and the horse doesn't seem to care. He's happy just stuffing his face.

I'm a happy hacker and don't compete so don't see the point of forcing myself to do it when neither I nor the horse will enjoy it. Winter is hard enough so we'll just get through for now and start again when the weather and ground improve a bit.

I can't ride atm anyway (broken leg) but it is many years since I was enthusiastic about riding in a cold wet wind. I don't think it reflects badly on you and tbh unless you need to ride for some particular reason, I can't see the point, you can't expect the horse to give his best work in those conditions.

I had an enforced period of time off over Christmas due to saddle fitting issue and waiting for the saddler. All done, full of enthusiasm, very motivated and DP now has a cough and off games so I’ve given up with him for now. I will hack B out rather than ride and lead him from DP as I have been doing and his sharer will ride him in the school the other days. She is very motivated but just turns up to ride so has none of the day to day battles with frozen taps, soaking hay, mucking out etc etc.

I am the same, I haven't ridden for a week and I don't feel one bit guilty. The ground is frozen, I can't wait to do my stuff and get back in the warm and I highly doubt he would want his warm rug removed and a cold saddle put on.. I am simply not doing it until it's either warmer, or I feel like it

Hope to actually ride a bit this week-end. Have taken this week to start my horse with lunging and free lunging (she's 5, would be suicide to hop on as usual after a long rest even though I have a very sane horse for a youngster ?)

The combination of bad weather and saddle having to be altered has meant I haven’t ridden since Christmas. After wind and rain we have had at least 4 lots of snow and now are frozen rock solid. I can only hack out normally and that has been impossible.
I still have not has the saddle back and have told the saddler I will wait until it is warmer.
I cannot see the point in stopping and starting time and again. I am too old to be bothered and would rather pony had one longer break than many short ones.

I haven't ridden either. I was doing quite a bit prior to lockdown but I dont seem to have the energy now. I really should drag myself out as I'm sure it would do me good

Aye struggling with snow, cold, dark nights. Lessons give me the motivation to g
head out and am meeting a friend for week hacking. Hoping lighter nights and better weather will motivate me more.

I am pretty motivated - want to keep the horses ready so they can go eventing. I have no arena so hacking it is. They would be ready to be up and running pretty quickly. Another 11 days and we find out our fate. Hoping to be out eventing in April which will give me a month to get some jumping in. One horse at 100 preparing for novice and the other starting off so will do one 80 then move to 90.

I persuaded work to give me a 2hr lunch break to ride and make up the other hour in the afternoon. I just work it round meetings.

I am out running/kettlebells most mornings to lose the half stone I have piled on and to get fitter. We are lucky as no snow but it’s very cold. Just wrap up warm.

No riding for me for the last couple of weeks, I can’t cope with the cold. The girls are out all day every day so they are absolutely fine.
Better days will come and I’ll get my motivation back.

gave my horse some time off and for the first time ever I am not really desperate to get back on at the moment. Think it’s a mixture of cold horrid weather and all that is going on with the pandemic, I’m just not motivated.

Back before I closed my business (which involved riding) and retired both myself and horses, back when I had to ride in all and any weather, neither myself nor the horses enjoyed being out working in cold, wet, windy weather at all. If you don't have to ride, why on earth would you?
