I'm at my wits end!!!!! After having problems with Hudson's saddle(fitted by saddle fitter), im having the same with Magic! Ok,i've bought one saddle from e-bay just for first time,it didn't really fit,OK,not a problem.Phoned saddle fitter, asked to change gullet in Hud's saddle so i can use it for Mag,she was busy, blha blha blha, cant you do it yourself? We did.She came, saddle wrong shape for Magic and actually we broke it,cos when we been changing gullet,we apparently cross-threaded bolts,so it have to go back to factory.OK,not a problem. The same day tried few dressage saddles, found one i liked, its fits really good, blha blha blha,i'll keep it for you. Week later i fed up without saddle and went to shop to pick it up.She said it did fit him,ok,but will come in two weeks time to adjust it if needed.Today bucking, jogging and just not standing still.Asked advice at the yard, they say saddle too tight on his shoulders and pinching him. On the top of that,i've just bought second hand jumping what didnt fit him and i had an agreement with seller take it back if it didnt fit.Nearly two weeks later after she always busy and cant see me,she just blocked our numbers from her phone. Now i've got saddle what didnt fit and dont have 150 pounds!I've got dressage saddle what fit nicely(what saddle fitter said) and horse who saying different! And now i cant ride him again till she comes on 6th!!!!I am fed up!!!!Why cant you trust people anymore????So bl...dy fed up!!!Rant over!

You could consider a treeless? Depends on what you do and shape of horse etc, but they are a bit less hassle if you're lightweight and just hack.

If not, I like Wow saddles, you have to cough up a lot to start with, but then when you change horses you can alter bits on them (panels etc) and have them adjusted and then you should be good to go...

OK, probably get shot for this but you did buy very very cheap saddles (£150 for jump saddle if I read this correctly) and ebay. Now you are stuck. I work with my saddler (Ellie Martin = brilliant) and never had a problem but she finds/makes my saddles and fits them. I would have plumped for one good GP from a master saddler (recommended on this board) rather than buying a couple which you are not happy with. Its not always about the brightest and the shiniest either with Ellie. She has made me a couple of bespoke saddles (we do go back a long way), refitted saddles, helped me out on numerous occasions and went to an awful lot of trouble to find a jump saddle which would fit my previous horse - and not at a great profit to herself. I would get rid (sell on ebay!) the saddles which don't fit, work with a good saddler and just go for one decent saddle (second hand)

I've bought one from e-bay and its was cheap so its not a problem. But another jumping saddle(its not new,but still going) we had an agreement with seller what shell take it back! And now she avoiding me and blocking my phone number! That what really sad!
I dont have money to but WOW saddle even second hand.Dressage i've bought from saddle fitter!
And decent treeless ,the one you can jump and do dressage in, cost more than normal saddle.
Argh...Just have to wait till she come to fit saddle.:(

If i were you i'd ask her to come and see the problem with the saddle, ie that its too narrow and ask for either a replacement that fits, or a full refund. I had this problem with a saddler who fitted a saddle that was too wide and too long for my girl, i had vet out and backman both said saddle was the problem so got a second opinion from a qualified saddle fitter and in the end got a full refund for the poorly fitted saddle. I did however have to create a fuss and threaten court, as sold not fit for purpose and it worked :D!! So i would ask for a refund if the saddle is no good to you and then get a different fitter in.

I've asked her, what if he will fill out, have more muscles ,will she be able to make it fit?She said yes,she can make it slightly wider by taking some flocking out and something else(cant remember).I will have phisio for Magic on Thursday morning, she is good at spotting problems with the saddles, see what she suggest.

can't recommend saddle fitter but can recommend a saddle that you can do dressage and jumping. Albion selecta. about £300-£400 off ebay second hand. all you need to do then is buy knee rolls to go with it . gp knee rolls, dressage knee rolls or xc/jumping knee rolls. i've got that saddle and have the jumping knee rolld and dressage. very useful as you can just chnage them quickly , no need to have 3 different saddles :) and very comfy to ride in :)

Oh,i wish i knew about that saddle before i bought dressage one!Oh,well, will know for future. But again, buying off e-bay without trying ,and what if it didn fit?

Ive got exactly the same problem. I had a very well known establishment come and fit a saddle to my boy 2 weeks ago. The saddle she fitted was very nice (£500 !) and it cost me £55 to call them out, now 2 weeks on and the saddle is just too wide for the horse, it is slipping back and pressing on the sides of the wither if i stand up in the stirrups (like over a jump) . I said at the time i thought the saddle was too low and she said 'no thats fine, hes got plenty of room, it will be fine' --- i called her today to say i am unhappy etc , and she kept saying 'well the horse was very fat, he must have lost weight' -- i said, yes - he has lost abit of weight, but we are only talking 2 weeks , not 2 months. She is coming out on Thursday to adjust the saddle, but to be honest i am really not happy about this at all, i would prefer a refund

Was your new saddle flocked up at the time of fitting and sale?

Look at the Balance International website. Their saddles are not cheap, but also not extortionate and horses love them. The padding system means that they are straightforward to adjust if the horse does change shape, but once they've been in the saddle for a while and their back is healthy, they tend not to change shape anyway.

they're such great saddles and not produced anymore that selling one of these on ebay is really not a problem. plus they can be adjusted if its not a perfect fit. this is one of the few saddles that my mare and me both feel comfortable in jumping as i do like big knee rolls and forward cut saddles but she has very straight cut shoulders, in this saddle the underneath flap is straight cut making mare comfy and then the kneeroll sits on top not interfering with her shoulder but giving me the support and comfiness i like :)

Interested in the comment about too wide on the saddle. My SJ saddle has alternated between being too wide, perfect fit and now too wide again. In this instance as it fundamentally was the right shape for my young horse, Ellie recommended a sheepskin pad for the "in between" stages. Was yours a case of never being correct?. Mine needs the pad again due to horse dropping weight and muscle being ill and is now carrying less than when I started building him up.

Also interested as Ellie, looking carefully at my 5 year old thinks my SJ saddle will not fit next year. At all. Money is being saved now...

Have you tried Marianna at Better Saddles, she in surrey. she does a whole range of saddles, treed, semi tree, treeless.

My votes for treeless, i have 3. They always fit, regardless of how fat my neds get, always comfy, always secure. Ive not had a saddle issue for years!

Best of luck.
