No more Reading horse auctions.

Thimberley and Shorland have stopped their horse auctions as no longer financially viable. They will still have their once yearly shetland sales, 3/4 times a year carridge sales incorporating the tack sales with this.

Where would be the next nearest horse auctions, is Southall still going?

Southhall is closed now. So is Melton Mowbray, Northampton, Banbury (long ago) Cambridge, Leicester hasnt been going for ages, Derby is very small, - I don't know where people send their lesser quality animals now...

I would imagine the nearest sales now is either Ashford or Duckhurst. It's a shame though that these auctions seem to be stopping,although given that people seem to have less money to spend at them it's hardly surprising

Let's be honest though, Reading auction was a dive and full of unsavoury characters at the lower end of the horse selling market. I don't think they did anything to improve that, eg producing catalogues might have helped? Also with the internet I don't think there is such a need for an auction selling 2nd equipment

I have bought a number of horses from reading, all of which have turned into very nice animals. One that a bought went on to event on the pony teams and competed at intermediate level BE. I bought one at the last sales, a coloured pony. He has turned out to be a star.

Southall relocated to Langley - I think they hold the sale every Wednesday - in Market Lane/Road or somewhere with a similar name.

Shame it's closing, we used to get a few horses from Reading for the riding school years ago, and it's where I bought my ex-police horse.

There's one in Norfolk, they hold monthly sales, not sure what quality is like though. There's also Beaulieu Road in the new forest.

Pardon my french but thank ****** for that!
The place was a dive, full of unsavory people/dealers and in all the years of going there not ONCE did I ever see a passport/chip matched to the horse being sold.
Many a sad case has gone through there!
