poor you, just when you think it is getting better. I would poultice to see what comes out. Is the hoof hot? Is there a pulse?

I have a horse that gets abscesses regularly (his feet are better now but in a mess when I got him 7 months ago) good luck.

It does sound like you could have had a bit of infection in there still and it has now popped out. In fact the exercise today has prob just made it move and now its burst - not a bad thing at all. Better for it to come out now than brew up over a few weeks and have lameness problems again.

Poultice it as normal and poss. call you vet just to check it over but dont worry. When it has healed it will slowly grow down the hoof but your farrier will keep an eye on it and deal with it as nec.

Defo sounds like abcess that has burst out at coronary. As for what to do?

Hot tub in salty water? (If he will stand in it?)
Poultice?
Talk to farrier if he wil answer the phone on a Sunday night?

I hate abscesses, but i also hate getting the vet out for them because they always end up perfoming surgery on the hoof !

Big hugs of sympathy tho!

thanks guys .farrier says its fine and keep him exercising to help with moving it and to stimulate the blood supply.but i forgot to ask him if it will affect the hoof growth any ideas.

There may well be a mark that grows down the hoof where it burst, when the abscess hits the sole, you may well see a funny lump on the sole which is effectively scar tissue - i am seeing this at the moment with my boy who abscessed over winter

thanks casp3r not really into showing so cosmetically not bothered but i did not want to see a split in his hoof if you know what i mean.so is your boy good to go now.for such a little problem is sure does cause a lot of worry and time .nice to hear there is an end though
