Lucky you were about. my experience is the complete opposite thankfully. whe my pony bolted for home leaving me on the floor i had cyclists, the local game keepers on their quads and the people who live in the wood all looking for me as they had seen a riderless horse. Pony eventually caught by my husband as she wld not let anyone else close on a main road.

i thought how nice it was that so many people were concerned that a rider might be hurt.

I guess if you are not "horsey" it might either not occur to you, or seem to frightening .... maybe.

I agree, half a ton or more of horse galloping around may seem pretty scary to those who don't handle horses.......if it's stood or walking about, then I'd be more inclined to think that some people WOULD do their best to try to catch it.

Non horsey people really have no idea about them and you can't really blame them for not trying to catch one that's going flat out down the road! Don't be so hard on them - it probably wouldn't even cross their mind to look for the deposited rider!!

Oh yes I totally understand, if people arent horsey I wouldnt expect them to help me catch the horse.
I was just a bit shocked that people saw all this going on and no one actually thought to go and look for the rider!!
Great to hear all these stories with happy endings :)

ArabianGold - Why havent you been for the drink?!?! It reminds me a bit - where we are we often pass marines out marching past on dartmoor and secretly I wouldnt mind falling off then :)

I just never get the time, always busy lol.

Besides I wouldn't know how to engage conversation to get the stage of yes I want to go with my mare she won't stand still for 2 seconds as soon as your leg goes over the saddle she is off.

I think I would chuck myself off in front of a man in uniform lol... :)

He obviously fancys you, I mean asking you out for a drink when you are bleeding (not sexy!) is a pretty good indicator! :p Next time you see him GET OFF YOUR HORSE AND TALK TO HIM! :D Start with "hello", it's a good convorsation starter :D Make time to go out with him - surley you can spare an evening? Do what you have been told or santa won't bring you prezzies! ;)

I know if people arent horsey they probably dont want to approach a horse, :)

Yup, when I was about 10 or 11 my sister took me to her local stables, she's totally not horsey but she thought it would be a nice day out for me. She opened the gate to the turnout field/outdoor school to let riders through and a turned out horse decided to tag along trotting after them. I stepped up to it and put my hand on it's chest till she had closed the gate and then she told me off! I explained to her that it was automatic and not a big deal (I was pretty horsey back then) and that unless the horse was really determined to run me over (in which case i'd have known and gotten out of the way) it was going to stop. Think she was just intimidated of the animal coz she hadn't really caught the horse bug like the rest of the family :D
