As I posted the other day my little old mare came down with a bout of laminitis it turns out. It didnt seem to be a severe attack, just seemed slightly footy and stiff. However x-ray it and there was mild to moderate rotation in both her front feet, though some of this may have been caused when she had a quite bad acute attack 2 years ago as she wasnt x-rayed back then. She has been lamintis free since then.

Farrier came out today to remedial shoe her, she seemed pretty comfy when he was doing and she didnt really react at all as he was doing it other than not really liking it when she had to put more weight on her right foot. She seemed to be pretty alright in these new shoes, so hopefully fingers crossed its been caught soon enough that she wont have any long term damage the farrier has said.

However call from vet today as she took the bloods for her Cushings to be re-tested and her bloods are in normal range still. This is good news that her Cushings isnt getting worse. We now think it was the new winter grazing which has set it off, since the field wasnt idle for a lamintic but I had to make do unfortunatly :(. So all seems okay now, still on two danillon a day.

But my main thing is, I don't know whether to be happy/sad or what?! I should feel relieved her Cushings isnt getting worse...but I dont know..:(

Just a quick rant after a very tiring and long week :(

There's no should about it. You feel whatever you feel. I'd be sad that she's got laminitis and frustrated at having a field that isn't ideal and pleased that the cushings hasn't worsened.

Think you've got my feelings there in one. My brain is just like a massive mush of emotions.

Thank you for the hugs shysmum, think what I need :(. We are both here on our own up here and don't really know anyone!

Have you got your own yard then? Or you mean you don't know the other liveries? You could post a pic of your oldie here for people to coo over :) I like oldies, with their sleepy eyes and greying out faces, bless them.

Moved areas due to starting university about 6 weeks ago, bringing old lady with me thinking it would be better for her, turns out it wasnt sadly so we are moving back home to old yard as soon as shes sound and vet/farrier say she can travel. Had it all arranged for this Saturday! I dont really know the other liveries too well and they dont know me or pony! Was on other yard for nearly 9 years and these people had seen her through the youth and cushings period. So its just harder when I need advice/support, still in contact with the old yard friends though. One of them is a lady with two chronic laminitics, so shes been a huge help over the phone for me!

^heres the old lady being free lunged a few weeks ago!

Feel free to PM me if you ever want to - my girls in the same positon, pedal bone rotation, Cushings, lami attacks etc...!!
Sometimes it can feel like things are never going to get better, but they do and the main thing is her Cushings isn't getting worse - good remedial farriery can help her feet but it's a positive thing her hormone levels are in the normal range :)

Thank you, I probably will do when I know where this is going. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, so far the vet and farrier dont want her danillon up since she seems comfy and shes still running round the stable at feed time and seems comfy on her feet. Obviously I'm new to the area, but local big feed shop, a lot other liveries who dont even use my farrier and his other clients have said fantastic things about him so thats always very good to hear!

Hope the move goes well. You are such a lovely mummy just doing what us right for your old girlie. Bless her I hope it all works out ok for you very soon.

Thank you so much, that really means a lot. I've shed a good few tears today just thinking about my old lady and hows she getting on! Shes my life.
