i have had some people try and get me to do dressage the rolkur type i had to move away because and now have my own horse who doesNO dressage just wondering what the general opinion was on the subject

i think rollkur is EVILLL!!!!!!!!!!!
i hate it and in my opinion it should be illegal!!!

i used to really like this dressage horse called Jerich Parzival who was ridden by adelinde cornelissen and i used to love them do dressage together till i found out adelinde used rollkur!!!!

she used rollkur sooooo badly on jerich parzival that she got eliminated from the world equestrian games because jerich's mouth started bleeding and his tongue went blue!

she deserved getting eliminated and now shes just got a silver medal in the london olymics!!!! i cant believe it! she doesn't deserve it after her cruelty to her horses!

and that's just an example

rollkur just makes me feel sick
 
Risking being ripped into here, but just for kicks why not.

I don't completely hate rollkur if I'm honest. Originally, it did have it's training purposes as the whole idea was to encourage [when needed] submission and relaxation of the muscles.

However. 10 years or so on...and it's 'use' has changed quite drastically and over-used, over-publicised and ultimately, when it IS shown, done incorrect and over extreme nowadays. Back when I was doing dressage on my mare, we did in fact use over-bending as an exercise at one point. NOT as a warm-up. I can't remember the ins and outs at the time why we were doing it, but ultimately, she was quite a little gassbag and needed to settle in her neck and release and relax through her back, neck and poll. Asking for slight over-bend on her, again not in the way Adeline and co demonstrate it, did make a huge difference to her and got her relaxing through her back by learning the 'release' when she stopped overbending. Ultimately, we used this in two or 3 sessions, and by the 3rd one, she was completely free over her top and a lot more soft through her front end. She'd stopped being gassy and you could work the contact right down to the ground if you wanted to on her - she'd search for the contact, and where-ever you kept it, she'd work there happily. None was ever 'forced', or created blue tongue, bleeding, cramming her head in etc. It was all done passively and not anything like the 'Rollkur' used today!

I still do think, done correctly, like anything, it does have his uses. However, with growing the fads, fashions, gadgets and de-creasing riding standards, it's gone to crap and so far beyond it's original purpose, like most things ;)

You are slightly confused. Parzival was eliminated during his test because he had bitten his tongue, a harmless injury which can happen to any horse at any time, however the rules are clear than any sign of blood leads to elimination. There are calls to rethink the rules to make an exception for bloody injuries that do not pose a welfare concern.

The 'blue tongue' horse was Scandic ridden by Partick Kittel. The horse appeared to have a blue tongue during a warm up sessions and right before the rider stopped to correct the horse's tongue which had gotten over its bit. I believe that no disciplinary action was taken by the FEI following investigation of the (limited) footage.

What were they asking you to do exactly? Rollkur - whatever people think of it, is actually quite a specialised technique, and only possible on a horse that is highly trained already.

Whilst I applaud your attempt to highlight Rollkur, you make yourself look silly with this post and belittle the excellent work being done by others who are trying so hard to raise awareness.
If your horse (and yourself) do not "do" dressage I cannot for the life of me see you being encouraged to "do dressage, the Rollkur type"

IF you want to raise awareness, read up, read some more THEN post once you have a grounding knowledge of what you are actually talking about!

okay sorry about that then:o maybe i did get confused:confused:

but i do think the blue tongue is right with jerich aswell because if you type in on google images jerich parzival there is a pic of him with a blue tongue and blood on his tongue.

The blue tongue incident was Scandic .
 
in answer to you (joeanne ) i have read extencivly on the subject and if you are supporting the idea then i think you and anyone who uses rolkur has lost the true partner ship between human an horse .
i am sorry for posting this thread i had no idea that there was people who surport the idea :(
 
she wasnt supporting it, she was suggesting you didnt know what you was talking about by saying you was no longer going to do dressage (very stupid comment)
