We have a four year old TB who seems much happier and more confident shoeless..We took them off initially as we thought we were going to have to give him 6 months off due to my ill health but luckily Im ok at the moment. he is marching around with a spring in his step and his feet look great. we havent done any real road work yet but plan mainly to stick to bridlepaths etc for the timebeing ! Anyone been able to keep their TB unshod or has anyone experience of the Epona shoes as we are thinking if we have to get him shod to try them ?

Don't know about Epona shoes but my mare has been shoeless all winter as she's been out of work. I was feeling a bit down at the weekend due to my youngster having some health issues so decided out of the blue to take the older mare out for a ride. She actually did really well and felt very keen and moved well.

She's actually Tb x Hanoverian and has always had quite good feet. I think they can manage just fine but I guess it all depends on the quality/shape of hoof to start with and management once barefoot.

My Tb has not had shoes on for 5 years, she has great feet now, when i had them taken off i used Keratex on her feet to harden them up and she has been fine. She used to be terrible when FMD shut our farm down i had her shoes taken off as we were not allowed out she lasted 2 days before i had to ring the farrier to come put them back on!!

My TB mare has shoes in front but goes barefoot behind. Has done for about 5 years and is much better of for it as she has more grip on the roads. She's shod/ trimmed every 5 weeks to keep her feet in shape

I have a TB mare who has been without shoes for two years on my farriers recommendation . Her feet were a bit of a mess when we got her so he said give them a rest and see how she goes for a while , was really only feeding her up and rebreaking her at the time . We now hack out with some road work , not miles but a fair bit in the winter , and she is fine.

I have just had my mares shoes taken off due to my pregnancy but she is doing fab without. I am currently still riding her and the only time i nice any difference is when she walks over the drive at the yard which is VERY stoney but it just slows her down which for her is a good thing lol will see how we go when the ground dries out tho, i know her backs will be ok as she had these off when in foal so if worse comes to worse will have fronts back on. TBH if she copes well i will not have them put back on when i start competiting again as i only jump on surfaces or if the ground has cut in it as she hates jumping on hard ground.

i have 2 TBxs unshod
cope fine
they wear easyboots or swiss hoof boots if im doing a longer hack than normal or going over lots of stones.otherwise they are fine hacking out for 1-2hours/45mins schooling each day

oh thats brilliant news ! ! We will monitor him closely and see how he goes. His feet are quite good already so Im hoping with care we can keep him shoeless. Those boots sound like a good idea too Kx
