No Timewasters ???????

Time wasters are generally only buyers who never have any intention of either buying the horse, or buying it at near to the asking price if they liked it (unless they have indicated to the seller a maximum budget in advance).

It’s absolutely fine to view a horse, not like it and then leave. It’s not fine to try it another 3 times just in case you magically love it the third time!

Oooh, I had another, went 2 hours to an appointment to view a nice youngster.

Got there and the lady was riding her own horse in the arena.

Told me that she did not have time to show me the horse and did I not get a message.

At that moment my phone went off and there was a message.

She said that she was too busy now to show me the horse as she wanted to ride her own, but she knew of another one down the road, 1st gate on the right.

As I had travelled 2 hours, I went to that gate. No one there.

Rang rude lady, to confirm I was at the right place, who did not answer.

Went back to original farm, whereupon she was still riding her horse but her (rather embarrassed) groom showed me the youngster, which ad a sarcoid despite being assured that it did not.

Groom takes me to rude lady who tells me that she meant the 2nd gate on the right not the first, but the lady who was going to show me the surprise horse had gone home as they thought I had left rather than go there. She did not have time to show me either horse and could I leave.

Drove 2 hours home again!

WTF???

I hate this phrase, i think it basically means if you plan on viewing my horse you are expected to buy it. I also think it is a bit of a joke that sellers will put this phrase on post whilst they are miss selling a horse. The number of "novice bombproof" horses i viewed when i looking that were not as described what so ever. One bolted into a car dealership, proceeded to off the rider then tank off with no rider down a main road against traffic, another the owner wouldn't get on so out came 'The friend' who attempted to try and make the horse look calm struggling to contain it. So basically... what a rude comment! and a moment of thought for all the buyers time that is wasted.

ETA that isn;t the only time a seller has replied GOOD to being told I was not going to buy... one man was selling a pony no-one else would ride for me. But it did look beautiful - a dun connemara - so I hopped on. I think she was subtly lame or had a sore back or something. Very reluctant to move forward at all. Very guarded. This was being sold as a potential event pony! (It was during the search for the pony who would eventually be Ginny.)

When I said no he said 'you're mad if you can't see the quality in this pony' and 'next time you view bring someone who can ride' and 'you've done me a favour saying no as I realised I don't want you to have her anyway.'

He was nice.

His yard was so grotty I insisted Katie scrub herself fully before we went back to our own yard. Other horses were snotty with gummy eyes. It was sad leaving her there. Pony buying is horrible at times. :(

Whether I reply to an ad with no timewasters on it depends how its written and whether it comes across as passive aggressive or not. When I used to ride for a dealer we did get a fair few timewasters. You could usually tell within a few minutes of them arriving if they were or not. People who bought everyone and the dog to a viewing and wanted all of them to ride, a lady just out of the riding school who wanted a 4yr old arab not long backed ( she wasn't even allowed to mount she was that terrified) and a lady who came back for 4 viewings then said she thought she wanted a mare instead ( why did you come try the gelding then???).

I've been labelled a timewaster because I walked away from a mare who failed a vetting on potential soundness issues. I offered a reduced price but apparently the mare was still worth the asking price. Same mare was sold for 1/3 of the price about 8 months later.

I've had some timewasting sellers though. Drove 5hrs to see a horse who was much greener than advertised but wasn't a bad horse. Bit opinionated to hack but the price was reasonable so thought why not. Owner said they were torn between two buyers and could they contact me. This was fine. I then got messages about 2 hours after while driving the 5 hours home saying they preferred us. So I said yes. I got more and more messages specifying what transport I could use, what type I could use and wanting it done asap. Getting quite insistent and then weirdly precious culminating at about 2am where they said they were no longer selling the horse they couldnt cope and blocking me.
Drove 4 hours to see a horse to be told I couldn't because it was raining and could I come back. um no... you could have told me earlier and I wouldn't have wasted the fuel.
Went to see a novice ride for an elderly relative. Horse had a large swelling on its shoulder which hadn't been disclosed but it had apparently had for months, it proceeded to rear and dump the groom before 5 strides of walk.

Some of these stories are awful!

I was once I time waster over whats app after the 3rd question I asked.

I was looking for a beginners horse that was a real confidence giver etc etc. When I found out the horse was a couple months of the race track and replied very politely "unfortunately not for me, thanks" I was called a time waster and and a few other choice words and was told I was very closed minded to think this horse couldn't be a confidence giver just because it had only just come off the track...o_O
