No viewings - opinion of my advert please

I'm glad that you are now having some success with your ad.
I made the comment about clothing because someone else had said that dark clothes make a better picture - I disagree.
There are ways to make her look less on the forehand, which can often be more about the way a horse is ridden than its stage of training. I suggested a couple of ways to improve your trot photo, which makes her look very on the forehand, which is likely to put people off.
In the unridden photo she looks to be a nice sort.

I had read about the dark clothing remark and thought it was a good idea until I wore completely black clothes to XC last weekend and looking back at the photos it looks really odd! lol

Yes it's the stage of the jump and the angle. I'm sure she has a lovely jump. The hard part is getting people to view her. Once they see them in the flesh then the photos are irrelevant anyway, its just getting people out to see her in the flesh. Good luck with the sale

shes such a lovely horse to own. I agree it is the hard part getting people to come as im sure people would instantly like her if they saw her much like these people coming for the second viewing this week :)

If you are selling this mare for someone else, I would have thought that you would have done the most professional job of putting the advert together. To me that would have been ensuring that the photos were of her moving in the best way she could, with the absolutely best pictures you could get, with the rider looking as if she were selling the horse, not just having a jolly. Unprofessional adverts when selling for others put me off ugely when I am looking. I hope the people coming back for a second viewing like the mare.

She's doing the adverts on behalf of me as she is good at this but she is not a professional just a friend of mine who has kindly offered to help. We are not regular sellers/ dealers its a private home and I have never sold a horse of mine before. In the pictures on her advert I am taking part in a dressage competition and my friend is jumping her. But we had limited photos of her jumping and haven't had time to get more recently as I am at college. I think my friend is doing as best as she can but it is a struggle with the current market to sell a horse. And yes I do hope the people like her as they have shown in there first viewing.

Fair enough, but she was asking why there were no viewings, people have tried to help and got some quite rude and dismissive replies. I still think you would have had more respons with better pictures.

I don't understand how she has been rude and dismissive she's took their advice on board and the pictures have been changed and new photographs have been taken. But yes I agree with you on this on some of the previous images but the pictures have now been updated. Thank you for your advice.

The photos would stop me from picking up the phone and making further inquiries. The wording of the advert is basically fine although could be tweaked a little but to be honest with you, I make my decision to call or not and find more about the horse, by what I see with the photos.

I know it is difficult sometimes to get decent photos when dark at nights and they are muddy, hairy monsters but you owe it to the mare to present her the best as you can so she has every chance on getting the right new home.

Best of luck as it is a hard time to sell just going in to winter.

The advert has been altered slightly since the starting comments. Is this any better? :) http://www.horsemart.co.uk/all-rounder-horse-horse-5-yrs-5-mths-15-0-hh-appal/Horses/310093

Much better advert! However beware of posting the link, if anyone reports you the thread will get pulled.

I also think that the advert looks better now, but hopefully the people coming for a second viewing will buy her.

Good point Boobos. The rules have changed, but as I recall, only so that it is allowed to post links to adverts in Horse&Hound.

By the way, to make it more confusing, people not involved in the horse (= not gaining any profit from a potential sale), is allowed to post links to other peoples adverts, even if they're from other sites.

Another thing I do if I'm looking at a horse for sale on sites such as this, is go back through the sellers posts........ you often find all sorts of 'interesting' items about the animal for sale, which usually give you a larger background to the animal, and current reasons for selling.

The part which grates on me and could be worded more favourably to the mare is Kylie is a lovely mare works well in the school in walk, trot and canter in a nice outline, but still green due to age. I would reword this to saying Kylie is a lovely mare. She is still green, however she works well in the school in walk, trot and canter in a nice outline. In adverts you have to try to end on a positive.

Thanks for your input, but I can assure you the reasons for selling are genuine and there is nothing underhand or secret going on here. Feel free to search through all my previous posts as there are no threads about this horse that I could find.

I have ridden the horse for sale tonight, in the rain, and she rode beautifully.

Why do people always think because you are selling a horse that A) there must be something wrong with it, and B) you are lieing through your teeth?

We have been trying to sell a super little 13.2hh haven't even had a phone call. Sign of the times good luck with rehoming her. She looks a lovely sort and Appy x welsh. Who could want more!!!

I'm sorry, you've read too much into my post...... I wasn't insinuating there was anything untoward in YOUR advert, just explaining what a lot of people do these days. It's so easy to google a name or a number, and there is so much information out there for anyone to access....no one can have any secrets anymore. I know I've done this myself on my last 4 horses ( and I'm a technophobe!)

A good horse will sell in any climate, my friend has just sold a pony club pony (12 year old) for £3500. He went in 3 days of being advertised. So I'm sure if you can persuade people to come and view, she'll soon be snapped up!!

Then my apologies in this instance. Just always feels like people are ready to take a pop at you just becasue you want to sell your horse, I've already been branded rude and dismissive on this thread for no reason that I can work out.

Hope your little herd are all well.

I was once told never argue by text as there is no emotion on a text. no facial expression to read etc. sadly its the same on forums. you can interpret a post totally different to whats meant :) i know some people dont like smiley faces etc but i use them alot to lighten what i mean :)

Yes thats completely true. Written words are so easily misinterpreted. I'm nice really, lol :D :D :D

It was me who said you had been rude and dismissive, because you "laughed your a*** off" when one poster suggested a change of clothing for the rider, you ignored suggestions about the mares breeding and how to attract people interested in Appaloosa's and IMO generally came across as if you didn't actually want any constructive crit. Yes that is just my opinion, but it is based on the tone of your posts, the above are just some of the examples.

Ah this is exactly what the poster above said about misinterpreting written text.
I 'lmao' at that comment because it genuinely made me laugh, not in a nasty way though, the poster thought I looked scruffy and I found it funny. Nothing rude intended at all.

I made a lot of changes to her advert based on the comments and was grateful for them all.

I do apologies if you feel I was ungrateful but I assure you I was not, the thread has been very helpful which is why I started it in the first place.

(p.s. the mare doesnt have any breeding in her pasport hence why that wasnt an avenue for me to follow. I honestly wanst just ignoring it :) )

:) :)

Nowadays abbreviations like 'LMAO' and 'LOL' are used in a light tone I know I for one use them in most of my conversations for a conversation filler and usually find if I am not very happy with someone I do not use it . ALL of the comments are took in to account and we have discussed them in person which you wouldn't have seen and alterations HAVE been made to the advert based on some of the kind peoples comments. But as you say this is just your opinion of us and im sure if you knew us in person it would be different .. LOL
