No water with chaff?

Do you put water with your chaff when feeding?
Apparently some don’t?

happy hoof to be exact for my own feed but not sure what others use.

Id always add a bit of water - I imagine it would be a bit like eating dry weetabix otherwise! Seriously though - I always add water to feeds, Ive seen horses with choke and lost one to colic so Ill take any opportunity to get more moisture into them.

With it being short cut, it’s much easier for them to gobble it down without chewing properly so I always make wet feeds to avoid choke.

no one on our yard gets a dry feed either if that helps.

I always damp it down, but then I damp down all bucket feed anyway, with or without chaff.

When we used grass chaff to slow down the cob's eating soaked grassnuts, that was obviously wet. But when I feed plain oat straw chaff in large quantities to replace hay for good doers, I feed it dry. They don't tend to rush it.

I know a horse that got choke from eating dry feed, including chaff, so I always wet it.

grass chaff in soaked grass nuts so always wet. once had a youngster grab dry nuts and choke so everything gets porridge consistency now

Yes always, my Welsh had a really nasty bout of choke after eating dry chaff.

always, whatever I fed it would be damp and for a horse that's colicky like my last one, I used to use sugar beet to make the feed sloppy...

I always dampen anything feed wise

I have one here that would inhale dry Chaff if I let him but everything gets soaked so he has less chance of choke. I find they actually prefer it wet.
