Apologies as I've rushed through the previous threads, so not commented! Good news, Mr D had his first canter on Friday and felt fab. We hacked out today for an hour and a half and he was a happy horse. I am so relieved. When they get to 23 you just treasure every day they are happy and sound. I went to the Hartpury festival of dressage on saturday eve. It was an interesting evening with some lovely young horses in the PSG age class, the winner was a lovely 8 year old mare, one toowatch except I can't remember her name! Becky Moody did a super GP freestyle to music by Tom Jones, street ahead of the rest and beautifully ridden. None f the usual big names there but think it might be different next year pre Olympics (and I am going, yeah!!!!)

We were out doing pairs xc! I took my friend to her first ever hunter trial, to do the pairs 50cm (always been an ambition of hers!) and we ended up winning! With the only clear :) very proud of both ponies.
Then I did the 60cm/70cm pairs with another friend, had one fence down - weirdly a lot of the fences in this xc course were WH type? - but we ended up in 2nd! And I even felt brave enough to attempt the 70cm jumps rather than stick at 60. A great day despite it absolutely tipping it down between my classes :D

Super pony!

I've had two sits back on Chilli after another six weeks off for him - he feels great! I had a huge smile on my face last night as we had a trot in the school and he was pinging along with ears pricked.

The first ride was alongside my novice OH - I gave him a lesson on Indio while mooching around on Chilli. Indio is such a sweetheart, he's never been ridden by a complete novice but really looked after OH. OH enjoyed it enough to try a short hack around the farm yesterday as well, I was on Pocholo and both horses seemed to enjoy a zero pressure mooch in the sun.

So not very exciting but just lovely to have sound, happy horses :)

I had a lovely weekend at the Summer Sizzler Western show. Over 100 horses turned up for 3 days of competition, and we had a blast. Amber aced her ranch trail classes, did well despite getting a little exuberant in the ranch rail, and we did OK in ranch pattern classes, but a few breaks of gate cost us dearly. We're back home and hoping for some nice photos over the next week or so. She managed to place in the top 6 in every class, but I have to admit 50% of those were because those classes had 6 or fewer entries. Others had up to 17 in the class, so very pleased with her.

We did our XC yesterday, started with trot and pop then he gained some confidence and set forth into canter. He was a little too enthusiastic, although all good natured, so we went back to trot and pop to remember obedience LOL.

Today was dressage. I haven't seen the sheet yet, but the test was OK.

He is a busy boy with a lesson tomorrow, that said, he hasn't 'done much' each day, it is all very relaxed and low key.

4yo is starting to work nicely away from home. Only one tiny spook in a scary corner which, to be fair, Cas wasn’t sure about either so I really can’t complain.

Another outing booked for this morning so 🤞🏻 he’s just as chilled. Hoping to run his test for next weekend as I’ve not looked at it yet (petplan this weekend so don’t want to confuse myself by learning multiple tests).

Lesson to round off the week lots of spirals and working on the gears in walk and trot. Leg yield really started to feel like a proper yield if I remember to engage my seat properly. Wanted to introduce some turns on the forehand but she really doesn't understand this concept so I'll go back to doing it on the ground for a bit.

Hacked out with a new hacking buddy and went on a new route and she was ace even when a gang of children decided to chase us on scooters 🤷. She really great with other horses not so much as a ear flicked back. Feel like I'm riding her much better now and working with her rather than freezing shortening the reins when things happen. Instructor and I think her top line is improving as well her neck looks a bit less upside down.

She was very pleased with herself today. My leg doesn't actually hang that low I was just sitting a bit crooked.

Not sure what weekend this belongs to on a Wednesday - but here's Simon and I jumping around our 2nd intermediate at Upton today. Clear XC with 7 time penalties, two total rider error poles SJ (kicking myself tbh) and a dressage judge that really wasn't in love with him (doesn't matter because obviously I'm very much in love with the horse...)

Lots of homework to do, but now more convinced he could be competitive at this level if we keep putting the training in.

He really is - I've been around event horses long enough to know there are many that are this easy to ride around a track. Doesn't pull in the slightest, just steer and use your legs. And if in doubt, he'll slow down and take a look, and if you keep using your legs, he'll keep going. Back when he was a 4yo my boyfriend at the time who was a professional jockey told me that he was useless, much too lazy and backwards and to sell him and stop wasting my time. Pahahaha - ex boyfriend was an idiot.

Just bought a couple of pro photos - photographer from the big table wasn't around when i jumped (boo) and somehow the SJ fence is of the largest (125) spread on the course, and yet he makes it look like a pre novice fence - but he looked cute, so I bought it anyway.
