No wonder dogs get banned

At the max, I’ll take Bear to Pets at Home or the big dog friendly pet shop up the road. Zak goes nowhere bar his walks. There are some dog friendly pubs locally, but I’d rather leave the little darlings at home.

In general I find cafes that are overtly dog friendly/welcoming encourage over friendly dogs and people - in saying that I dont really think any people or dog reactive dogs- or dogs who are going to be fed when they resource guard (the mind boggle why anyone would think this is a good idea!) should be in tight enclosed indoor spaces with so many unknown variables. I dont see anything wrong as such with people/dogs being over friendly if everyone else is up for it which most of the time in these cafes they are.
If you are a bit sensitive about what dogs are near your dogs I think you should avoid places where there will be other dogs likely in close proximity- if you are not happy for another dog to sit next to/be interested in a friendly way in your dog I would suggest you dont use dog friendly cafes.
I wouldn't go near my local one as it would drive me made other dogs poking my (friendly) dogs or people wanting to interact with me/the.

What a load of contradictions within one post!
If every dog that was taken into a cafe was well-behaved and concentrated only on their own humans, there would be no problem. Resource-guarding (ours don't) shouldn't be a problem, as no other dog should be showing any interest in the resource. Dogs should be trained to be quiet and well-behaved, owners should be sensible enough to make sure that they are in control of their dogs and able to intervene if any other dog does approach for some reason. If other customers asked if they could approach the dogs that would be helpful, rather than just touching them uninvited.

Yeah I frequently go up to diners I don't know in restaurants and get all up in their face and say HI HOW ARE YOU CAN WE BE FRIENDS OMG IS THAT A SAUSAGE CAN I HAVE SOME?
Hahaha, I actually hadn't thought about it like this but it's absolutely true. I control my dogs when I take them into public places, and I don't let them wander up to other dogs. It hadn't even crossed my mind that the other dogs owner would allow her dog to come over to us and I've never before had a problem feeding Juno titbits at the table. Luckily as I had my dog under control there wasn't an issue.
I've put SusieT on UI as she really doesn't seem to be either intelligent or pleasant, and appears to use the forum to try to belittle and demean others.

oh Paisley.... silly you.... it’s because he is a whippy, and all whippys are gorgeous and huggable and MINE really and I want to take them all home ???
Oh god, I feel such a fool ??. I'm going to start charging people 50p a stroke (the dog, nobody wants to stroke me? )
If I lend him to you, can I eat my pudding in peace??

Of course ? you know I’ll take him off your hands at a moments notice ? The thing is I really don’t see you ever letting that happen ??
True dat ?. Been two people allowed the keeping of him so far, the one who bred him and a friend who's a vet ?
Maybe if you're prepared to tell everyone he can bark his age. Funny when he was two. Bloody tedious now he's ten ?.

I have 5 dogs. The "Hobbits ", 2 American Cockers and a Japanese Chin......and the "House Horses", 2 Great Danes.
I can take the Hobbits anywhere and generally be left alone but there isn't a hope in hell of being inconspicuous with the Dane-gerous Duo lol. I'm lucky if I can get a 100yards without being stopped for Great Dane Question Time 101?? so a restaurant would be a bloody nightmare ???

I love my dogs and I love my food but never the twain shall meet!! I'll sit in a pub beer garden with them but that's my limit. The dogs are really good in company - if left alone!! It's people that feel the need to come and have a fuss or talk to them and, being springers, once that starts, it's hard to settle them again.

I'll be honest, I'm also not a big fan of places that allow dogs near food because people often take the wee wee and encourage their dogs to behave like savages.

Bizarrely Willow is immaculately behaved in these sorts of situations. Tie her to a table leg and she just curls up and goes to sleep :)
