Just read that he was 2nd in an intermediate at spring hill. I didn't think that ponies could compete in intermediate classes? Am I wrong?

i think they can, but they can't compete above intermediate in this country.
it's a shame it's the Olympics next year, cos i was kind of looking forward to seeing Theodore O'Connor go round Badminton!

The deal is that you have to apply to BE if you want to compete your pony above Novice. If/when you get permission, you can go as high up the grades as you want.
Libby is also keeping Spring as a junior mount for next year.

I didn't think ponies were able to compete at Intermediate level either, unless they've changed the rules. I did notice that Althea Bleekman competed Mayflower in an intermediate recently and just presumed she'd been measured out of ponies.

If you have permission of Ginnie Keen then you can, as it is thought that some of the pony trial tracks are almost equal to intermediates now. You need permission off Robin Balfour aswell- wouldnt like to be in the shoes of the person responsible for signing the permission if a pony rider had an accident doing one however!!!

But thats run through FEI and not BE so I'm sure he can!

Opinions are like bum holes, everyone has one.
I am glad they have changed the rules but I bet some of the Juniors are feeling a bit sour as both ponies are world class!!

I think at the end of the day if the pony is up to it why not carry on up the levels, my GB Team pony went on to do Windsor Junior champ and did loads on Intermediate and did Young Riders on him too.
But yes I think both pony and kid needs to be ready and not rush into it thats where the safety side needs to come in. If you put up the record of Mayflower and the rest of the ponies/horses she rides she has had an amzing year and looks up to riding Intermediate with not much problem.
