Yes, I know that title ages me, but there's only so much even an alliterative genius :D like me can do with Great Witchingham as a starting point. This won't be much of a report as it was just an outing to try and boost the Cheeky Boys' confidence levels after Oasby, but there are vids - hurrah, I hear you say, in an Enid Blyton voice - for you to chortle over, so make yourself a brew and get comfy.

Team Baydale had an extra member this time, as Lionel (Dunning) fancied a day out and a chance to shout at me in public, :D so SuperFran and I were muchly entertained on the journey by his tales.....lots of  and :D and things never to be repeated. ;) So much for us taking our sunglasses and t-shirts as it was cold and grey when we arrived with the threat of rain. I whizzed off and walked the course, which had been spiked as the ground was firm in places, and thought it was a nice PN, just what the CBs needed after being a bit rattled at Oasby Novice.

Noddy (Jup) was on first, feeling very chilled for him, so I went for the soft-but-slightly-floppy kinda test, hoping his cute face would get us marks that I didn't dare try and get with the wow factor. All was going well until he got a bit niggly about the left rein, resulting in a complete spaz attack right in front of the judge - I swear if he could've shouted "argh, help me, I've got barbed wire in my mouth!" he would have.

Then onto Big Ears, who isn't quite there yet on the flat but was pleasing in how hard he was trying, other than the bit where something rustled in the hedge and he was convinced it was a horse-eating hedge monster. I find it hard enough to keep him straight and on the end of the rein ordinarily, so the weather was hardly conducive to dressage (and I use that word loosely) excellence. I'm loving Great Witch's use of long arenas btw, twas much appreciated :)

And I'm not a hunchback, but I was so cold I was shivering by this point and I really miss my hair as that little bun used to stop the rain running down my neck. :(

It was lovely to meet FinkleyGladiator who was stewarding and introduced herself, then said nice things about my matching boots, saddle and pony. :D :p

The rain then got heavier and even the eternally cheerful SuperFran was losing the will to live, but we all tramped down to the soggy showjumping warm-up and did our best to not go A over T in the mud. Lionel parked himself by the ring and reported back on distances etc, then I watched a few before I went in and decided to make up my own mind about the related distances once I saw how Big Ears was jumping. There are some comedy moments with SF and LD's comments on the round: SF indignant that I couldn't possibly have done a dressage with a 4 at the front of it whilst LD is counting strides and sounding impressed with my ability to get 9 in a 6 stride related and 7 in a 5. :D

Noddy, having been brought up on the moors in Yorkshire was very at home in that mud, but showed his disdain for the height of the fences by not really putting a huge amount of effort in - just enough, obviously

I was on my second jacket by this point, but it soaked through that in about 10 minutes and we must have all looked a picture of misery: LD on his quad with his non-waterproof waterproofs on, SF looking dalek-like in my OH's drizabone that was almost touching the floor and me, just sodden and miserable.

No more vids btw as I didn't buy the underwater version of the camcorder. However, if there had been you'd have seen me galloping round, grinning inanely at the amount of fun I was having.....NOT! It was truly horrible, slippery in places, boggy in others, the river had swelled and both boys were suitably suspicious at the first crossing to mince over the second in trot, holding their noses in case they went under. ;) To cut a long story short, I got 8 time on Noddy and 18 on Big Ears, but it wasn't like I was ever going to get a rosette with 39.5 and 43.5 dressages respectively, was it? Ho hum, it's been noted as good experience should we ever have to compete in those conditions and both boys coped admirably, surprisingly Big Ears being the chirpier of the two if the photos are anything to go by. If you haven't died of boredom already and can be bothered to look they're here:

I don't blame you if you can't be bovvered to do all that, or you could just lie and pretend you have. :D Anyhoo, Rome wasn't built in a day, enjoy the journey, onwards and upwards and all that guff, and I can offer you builders' tea, apples or pears - Ma Baydale is due to visit tomorrow so maybe there'll be cake then.:)

My sister and I were dressage stewarding that morning, and despite about 50 coats and hats between us were still shivering! Riding in the afternoon must have been mildly hellish (if hell was somewhere very cold and wet!). I think it was very considerate of Cal to let you know about the horse-eating hedge so you could both be very prepared for all eventualities... Some people have no gratitude :P They look very cool (in both senses!).

Where are you headed next with them?

Oh :( After that report I was expecting offers of lashings of ginger beer :p I'll hang on for cheese scones tomorrow if it's all the same :D

Noddy is still my favourite, despite Cal trying his best for you this time! You really must stop abusing him where other people might see though :p

That doesn't sound like much fun at all N apart from the LD anecdotes - even your report sounds bedraggled somehow. Don't read my report about Friday - we definitely had the best of the weather and I'm now feeling very lucky indeed.
I hope it served it's purpose as a confidence building exercise for the cheeky boys - if it had been me it would have probably put me off for life. Agree about the long arena, gives them time to do things right but also I suppose, time to think of naughty judge-startling mischief. Onwards and upwards :)

Love the running commentary "3,4,5,6,7,8,9"!!! very funny. Weather looks truely hideous well done for completing!!! I think I might have gone home but then mine thinks he belongs in the sahara and would probably have refused to leave the horse box let alone the start box!!

Did you find treasure? Explore any caves? Swim down and discover a shipwreck?

Well done to Noddy and Big Ears. Off to watch the vids. Sounds quite cold and miserable in parts - hope you have warmed up now :)

Ok so they are not the best tests they've done hey ho. Love the helicopter fence what a good idea to raise awareness.

I think the second photo of Big Ears is taken from
a fab angle and looks great are you getting it?

BTW had to Google Big Ears and Noddy as I'm far too young ;)

After it took me 10 minutes to find how to turn the sound on :D enjoyed the videos, well done for what sounds horrible conditions as always the video doesn't make it look so bad. I am glad you have proved you are human and capable of a dressage over 40 once in a blue moon ;) Where is next?

I saw you! I recognised the brown, and then I saw you putting on another dry coat on the way to SJ! Would love to have introduced myself but I was too busy :(

Well done though, the weather was so dreadful I take my hat off to all that rode!!

Bloody well done, Saturday was horrible - I sat in my LandRover scoffing chocolate brownies at the house jump in the top corner and I was freezing even with my heated seats on.

Both your boys looked very confident and didn't I hear Henry suggest you should go Novice on the PA?

Loved the report I'm headed to the fridge for a bottle of Fentimans finest.

Everyone looked frozen, or was it just the shock of having had a few t-shirt days in March? You're right, Cal is indeed very considerate and I'm an ungrateful cow for not realising his concern for me.:o However the aforementioned concern was not evident at Oasby when he saw fit to fire me into a ditch that could well have had monsters in it. Belton this weekend, then a quiet couple of weeks.

Please tell me you took 'lashings of ginger beer' (said in Dawn French Five go Mad in Norfolk sort of voice) :D:D

Funny you should mention ginger beer as that's OH's favourite, hence there was none left in the lorry. We've recently discovered Crabbes Ginger Beer which is alcoholic, even better. :D

Oh ok, I'll save you some cheese scones seeing as I'm a huge disappointment on the ginger beer front. :(

Could it be that you're such a fan because Noddy McMally is just your type of horse? ;)

Yes, Rosiefan, I blame you for using up all the good weather on Friday! ;) Can you send Frodo round to have a word with my two please, seeing as he's being such a superstar and my two are in the naughty corner so often?

It wouldn't have been so bad if it had stopped for a while but no, it just kept on raining. Even Noddy, who gets excited about going anywhere, was reluctant to get off the lorry.

finally got time to watch the vids. i think the weather conditions made for hypersensitive ponies in the dressage, only reason i can think for the momentary hysterics. at least cowpony did his at the other end, not right in front of the judge.
SJ looked good, so much better for cowpony, much much less argumentative and not running at all now. Noddy looked as if he just couldn't take such small fences seriously, you did v well to magic a clear out of him on a cba day! shame there's no xc vids, was looking forward to seeing you ride xc in flippers and snorkel...

No treasure, no cave exploration and no diving to shipwrecks - dull, huh? Oh well, Lionel's stories were entertainment enough. :D

Yeah yeah, I believe you. :p

I really like that photo too, shame the sun wasn't out. :(

I didn't have the sound on the first time I watched them and did lol when I heard SF and LD's comments. :D Poor Cal, he's still quite weak behind but there are some moments that give me a glimpse of how he could be eventually. *big sigh* I must go and watch your vids now, I'm so pleased Sarnie is back on form even if her dressage is a bit vocal. ;)

That's a shame, although it wasn't the weather to stand about chatting for very long. There was a lot of good-humoured muttering while we were waiting to showjump and go xc about how mad we must be all be.
