Hi all, further to my recent post asking about a suspicious lump, I'm am pretty much 100% sure that it's a nodular Sarcoid (friend who is training to be a vet totally agrees too) obviously due to time of year and the fact it's not urgent I haven't contacted my vet but I will do before treating it for sure to get confirmation.

My question is what is your experience of these, have they spread and what has been the best treatment?

It is about the size of a 5p piece and completely round and positioned just below his ear.

I had one lasered off a horse, off his lip, healed very quickly and very well. I believe lasering is one of the better forms of treatment for reducing the risk of them coming back or spreading?

tried to band- didn't work, liverpool cream did and touch wood not come back (7 years). Other one was on the sheath so went straight for the cream, 3 years clear so far. (2 ponies!)

I would never use Liverpool cream again, albeit that it worked successfully.
My mare was totally traumatised by it. She is a flower, admittedly, but she was an utter wreck at the second appointment and by the third, was so nervous and distressed, she kicked the vet when he even tried to go near her and she was sedated.
However, I have now had another mare lasered and although unpleasant, it would be my treatment of choice every time now.
I can’t post photos since photobucket stopped us sharing, but if you pm me, I can send them to you by email if you wanted to see lasering. I can’t say it has been successful yet as it’s still early days, but the vet is very optimistic it will be permanent.

My gelding had a nodular sarcoid on his inner thigh treated with LC 3 years ago, it was tiny (about 2mm diameter) when my vet first saw it but it grew like stink so it was almost 1cm diameter by the time we started LC about 6 weeks later (delay was because Liverpool had run out of LC).
He had 3 applications of 3/4 strength LC without sedation (he had bute for a day or two after each application). It took a while to come off and then it scabbed over a few times but eventually it healed really nicely and now you have to really be looking to see where it was.
Prof Knottenbelt recommended aggressive early treatment because nodular ones do tend to be spread and this one was right on top of a blood vessel so was more likely to (my vet was actually a bit worried about bleeding but there wasn't any).

Thanks all that's really helpful - really stupid question is Liverpool cream just applied directly to the Sarcoid daily/twice daily? It sounds from your responses that it may have to be adminstered by a vet and is quite painful?

My gelding has just been treated for three on/by his sheath and one by his eye. He had four treatments of LC and...fingers crossed...it has worked on all of them, He needs another check in January to make sure no further treatments are necessary.
My boy holds a grudge and is a pain to treat but he was as good as gold all through his visits. He had sedation for first dose, then half sedation to take edge off for second and none for the last two.
He did swell a lot around his sheath but he had bute and it didn't seem to bother him, he was bucking and playing with his friends so obviously wasn't overly bothered by it all and he has let vet do a check up since without trying to kill him.
