Had vet out today, as I suspected mare had nodular sarcoids.,
Sadly, confirmed by vet. Liverpool cream advised as the sarcoids are tiny, ATM, but quite a few of them.
However, the vet also confirmed what I had heard, and said they are caused by flies who bite cattle that have warts, and as it crosses species, causes sarcoids in horses.
Horses kept next to beef farmer, so any ideas on how I can reduce the biting insects affecting the horses?
I use various sprays, fly rugs and horses have access to shelter, although often choose not to use it.
Has anyone else got any novel ideas that may help reduce the contact from flies? Tonight, the midges were so bad, the horses were even going mad in the stables.

a rambo sweetitch hoodie. my horses have them. the midges and other flying insects cant get at [most] of the horse to bite. better than fly rugs.

Rigorous checking and covering with barrier ointments of all small wounds and loads of fly repellents .

Snuggy hoods buy body.
If they are tiny, depending on where they are....
Try global herbs restore for a couple of months, start on 25ml twice a day then 10ml like its says. It helps fight them, well did on my horse. I also use colgate duraphat 5000 toothpaste, can take up to 6 weeks, usually a lot sooner when applying every day and they drop off. you just need to make sure they have left nothing behind.
If that doesnt work go with liverpool cream but no harm trying this first.
I went straight for liverpool, only worked for one sarcoid on my boy and then used these and I have 2 left that are on his sheath so not treated with the duraphat yet.

JoClark, can I ask where you got the duraphat from? I can't seem to get any without a prescription, thanks

I got quite lucky when I got mine. Ask your vet for a prescription. Or try preloved,eBay (but email the seller as eBay don't allow it to be sold so will take it down as soon as noticed). Depends where you are really
