Noise Sensitive - ear plugs ???

My horse is very sensitive to noise - especially now we are indoors !!!! and its causing huge problems (see my post below)

Well i just wondered if anyone knew of good ways to muffle out the sound - like ear plugs or something ????
 
Have you tried a radio near the stable, try different stations, talk and music and even get some tapes/cds of brass bands etc

I did not have sucess with ear plugs, (wanted to use them so Saf could not hear the XC when she was doing dressage) tried them at home and had a violent reaction with Saf, she nearly knocked her self out shaking her head, scared me and I never used them again. An arab on our yard uses them to great effect at showing.

thanks he is fine in his stable and outdoors - we have poeople shooting down the fields near us and it doesnt bother him - its just seems to be indoors ??

Just get a hand sized piece of firm sponge and push it down the ear as far as you can. Generally, the bad reactions are because the sponge has not been pushed down far enough and it is irritating the horse. You only get one shot at getting it in each time, so be brave and shove hard.

Ok and how do i get it back out again ??????????xxx
 
Stick your fingers down and pull (or wait until it comes out by itself!) - to be honest, with natural horse head movement, they will usually come out by themselves after 4 or 5 hours. Once they work their way up, the horse shakes their head and they come flying out. I lost one at HOYS when I was in a class - fortunately it was sandy coloured, so no one saw it!

I was thinking about tweezers !!!!! ha ha ha bless my poor pony is going to hate me !!!
 
We used to use rooled up tights sewn into a cylinder, to plug the eventers ears. They make a smooth ear plug and you can adjust the shape by squishing them. The problem with foam is that it often isn't smooth and bits can come off the cut edge. You can also hook a the material with the tip of our finger to get them out
 
They are on ebay Stacey as I was looking into them for clipping but was recomended to use tampons!! Wet them first then wait for them to dry and in you go!!
