My horse is such a fat little pig that (after a few grand of vet bills) it’s thought that he eats his chaff so fast he has given himself chronic infection from it getting stuck up his nose, so I want to stop feeding chaff competely. He is a little cob, but he is skinny especially coming out of summer so looking for something that can maintain his weight. However, it cannot give him any fizz whatsoever, he is young, green and already far too full of himself.
He gets two small feeds a day, currently on 1/4 cup topspec & 1/3 scoop lite chaff in each (+ garlic). TIA!

Fibrebeet, Alfa beet (do they still make that?), recommended amounts of high fibre cubes. We had one who lived well into his 30s and held condition being fed trugs of speedibeet and high fibre cubes.

Maybe add oil for condition as well?

First I would make sure he has add lib forage in containers that slow down his eating. I have a little cob who cannot have chaff because of diastemas. He gets soaked grass nuts and speedibeet plus a balancer. I have to avoid alfalfa with him as well as it does not agree with him. Micronised linseed is my go to for weight gain. If adding a lot of oily stuff you may need to increase vitamin E.

You could replace the chaff with soaked grass nuts
Mine get Simple Systems HayCare as it is low calorie and they all tend to fatness (and it might suit your as he needs no fizz) but other, higher energy nuts are available too
You can add more or less water so it's fairly dry and crumbly, or sloppy and soupy. Mine all eat it well including the old man with dodgy teeth

My greedy cob just gets his top spec ration soaked and no chaff. He gives himself choke when he gets chaff so we just avoid it. Plus the mash it makes is good for hiding anything!
