Non horse related - things to do in/around Whitby?

Help me please!

In a rare moment of weakness last year I agreed to go away for a few days with my dad, his wife and my much littler brother and sister (they're 10). So next week we'll be in Whitby.

What to do? Some ideas for stuff to do with the kids would be great, but I'll also be taking off on my own (to retain some semblance of sanity ).

Whitby abbey, north york moors railway, loads of stuff round the moors to visit. Take a trip to the tourist info centre next to the harbour, they will point you in the right direction!

Driffield show next Wednesday - 40 miles south but a really busy show with lots to do

Walk along the coast to Sandsend and go to the café called Wit's End.

Uptake a trip 'up the road' to Runswick Bay. Possibly the prettiest traditionL fishing village, not much to do but an absolutely fantastic sandy beach.

Loads to do, you can hire bikes and cycle along the disused railway line (or walk), the Museum is very good, Sandsend beach is well worth a visit

Ryedale Folk Museum is a good day out, near Pickering.
