after you've already added the sugar. I just weighed both into the bowel and now I'm trying to cream it together and the butter is as hard as a rock. It was out on the side but I'm so mean and it's so cold in my house it may as well have been in the fridge.

I have to do it tonight as it is for someone's birthday at work tomorrow.

Suggestions?

I'd shove it in the micro at 5 second bursts, slice it through with a knife first to make it into smaller pieces. Use your fingers after each burst to squeeze a cube to see if it's softening.

I didn't know if it was ok to microwave once the sugar was in so I shoved it in the sink. All sorted now. You wouldn't think I'd done this a million times before would you?

It would need to get quite hot before it caramelised so you'd be fine there.

I'm the resident work baker as well, I feel your pain. :D

I too am a bakeaholic. My fav is probably a lot like yours. It is cherry and almond cake. It is sponge with cherries in but you split the mix and roll out some almond paste to put in the middle. Yum yum. It is all gooey and delicious

Don't. I have to make it tonight as I'm not in on Thursday which is the actual birthday as I am also the first aider and am off on my refresher course. It's great being a girl in a company of men!!!

Oh. And I had to forego riding tonight to do it as well. Good job I love em all really!

I just want to say how nice and comforting it is to be in a cake thread and away from all those other 'fighty' posts :)

Now if someone could post that recipe for the cherry bakewell cake

I seem to be mired in the 'fighty' post too but it's boring now. I'm going to go and make butter cream for my yummy looking sponge :)

Could I suggest you use a bowl, less messy and probably taste better!

Unless it was a chocolate cake...................................................................

Oops. Durr. Should re-read what I've written. I think I was worrying about my cake too much!

What a clot! I'm chuckling now too. Everyone always ends up laughing at me eventually. Class clown me!
