Oops, it's D's Birthday this Sunday.

I need to take him out to lunch or dinner :D. He would like the traditional English 'Sunday lunch' as he never gets to have one these days :o

I'd like to be able to book a table to be sure that we get in (I know, I've left it late!).

So, anyone knows of a place somewhere round the Nottingham or Derby regions?

Pretty please and a large hot choccy with forthy bits and sprinkles on top for all useful answers :D

The Vernon Arms in Sudbury is quite nice. It’s not mega posh but good food, nice atmosphere and always got tables book out so must be quite popular. Never had Sunday lunch there though..

Agree the Wheel at Branston and the Red Lion are both fab. The Plough at Normanton and the Black Horse at Grimston are both excellent too :)

Thank you :D :D :D

We went to The Wheel at Branston and it was very good :D

D enjoyed it and was very chuffed with his day - it was even horse free! Apart from the little pony that walked up and down past the window lol

Thank you for the recommendation, well worth it :D :D

THE BEAR INN!!!!!!

It's out in the middle of nowhere just North of Belper. The food is real English classic (game on the menu, haggis balls in whisky sauce.....dribble dribble). There's a carvery there now aswell which is also superb.

And the price? Well unles it's changed beyond recognition in the last few years - very reasonable for the quality of food! Let's face it, it's a traditional pub with a heli-pad, they must be doing something right!

Took OH there once and even he was bowled over and often mentions it when people here are rude about British food. :)
