My other pet, Jean Clawed Van Ham (bf named him....) needs a bigger cage! We currently have this cage http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/p...es-general/hamster-cage-sc623-58x32x41cm.html and it's lovely but Clawed is a super active hamster and I think he needs more space to run around.

I have trawled the internet and thought I found something perfect, but turns out the dimensions were wrong :( Can anyone suggest something bigger than what he has got and no more than £40 ideally. The base needs to be the same size (58cm x 32cm) or bigger.

Thanks for helping in the hunt :)

I had my gerbils in rotastack. Loads of tunnels and things to climb etc. It's pricey new but you can pick it up on ebay easily enough.

Don't know if that'd be any good?

Love the name!!

I agree with jesstickle about the rotastack, ideal for busy hamsters!

Ebay is a good place to look or preloved or gumtree or local free paper like the friday-ad or a boot sale.

Bf isn't a fan of those, he doesn't like the lack of bars as not so much air circulating around so don't think that's an option unless I can talk him round lol. But maybe a cage that has external tube attachments, then I can build him a big tunnel maze hehe.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Rotastack are ok until they get stuck :( Love the name :D

Might be worth looking at 'rodent' cages rather than hamster cages, so something for say rats plus as that way you'll get the bigger sized ones.

Stuck where? Mine never got stuck. I can't imagine where he could have wedged himself.
Sometimes he got stuck behind the loo when we let him out to run around though. Stoopid creature! :D

Have you done a search on ebay for hamster cages to see what else is out there?

Its a long time since we had hammys so rotastack might have been superceded by something else now.

You want a smaller version of my ferret cages, still have the bars to keep bf happy but have tunnel/tubes running round the outside too.

I had a hamster when I was a kid that pulled my curtains through the bars of the cage and then tried to eat them and got them stuck between it's teeth. That's why I switched to rotastak!

Poor little hammy with his foot stuck though. I must have just got lucky with Plectrum.

Ah, that Hamster Heaven looks a very good possibility! brighthair - how does your hammy find it? It looks like it has a nice deep tray on it, is there lots of space in the cage?

I've checked ebay (spent days on there before getting his first one) and although there's some lovely cages, they're not big enough. He needs lots to do, as he runs circuits of his cage and then climbs to the top, shimmies to the middle and then drop off for entertainment lol! He is CRAZY :D

He ended up losing part of his claw because of it but he managed ok.

He was a lovely hamster, big and cuddly. He was my (now ex) husbands and with typical male thinking he thought he should have a lady friend so we bought a female who turned out to be the evilest thing ever to have left a petshop! Never did hear the patter of tiny hamster feet, I think hamster was as scared of her as we were!

loads of space. You can connect the tubes so they run up to the green penthouse or not, or block the tubes off all together (this is on the HH, not the one on Amazon which doesn't have the house)
They can bar climb for hours, and you can fit a really decent size wheel in
Here's a pic of mine - there are 2 versions, mine is the new one

Here is the man himself, Plectrum. This is merely his travelling cage. He probably had about the same again during term time all connected with bendy tubes. He was such a dude.

brighthair - oh that looks fab. Looks like the £40 one is the same cage but less accessories, but that's fine because can use the ones he's already got at the mo.

jesstickle - aww he's a cutie!

This is Clawed

Clawed is awesome. He is one of those proper big fat hamsters that you can actually cuddle.

Pleccy wasn't much into cuddling. He was always too busy 'doing' to sit still for long. We used to let him run round the upstairs of our house for hours and he always managed to find something to poke his beak into!

He looks a real dude of a hamster!

Is he a large hamster or is someone with small hands holding him??

I was going to get a couple of guinea-pigs for my Grandson but after seeing Clawed I might get a hamster instead!

Oh, he's gorgeous... you've reminded me, that I've got a selection of nice hammie cages in my shed which are just crying out to be filled by a chubby fluff ball. I LOVE hamsters!! :)

Get a plastic guinea pig cage! One that only has the very top as bars, then put wire chicken netting over this (anyone can do this) and voila, massive space, and they're generally just under 40 too!

He's a large syrian hamster, I'm the one holding him. Funnily enough, this was a comprise to having a guinea pig (OH is sometimes a pain in the bum lol). When we went to get one, he was in a cage with about 7 others but as soon as it was opened, he was climbing up anything he could to see what was going on, so we chose him. And he's been awesome, I wanted an active hamster and he's certainly that with lots of character. That little fluff ball always makes me smile :)

Thanks lilly1, we did look at the one but as bumper said, would be worried about the cleaning of it.

madhossy - get on the hamster train!! :D

Thank you peeps, Clawed's new cage arrived today!! I went with brighthair's suggestion of the Savic Hamster cage (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Savic-Hamste..._petsupplies_5) and it is brilliant, absolutely huge comapred to his current cage, cannot wait to get home and set it up :D

Must say VERY impressed with Amazon! I ordered this cage yesterday lunchtime with the free super saver delivery option. I received dispatch confirmation in the evening and it arrived at lunchtime! Talk about good service. Now I just hope Clawed likes it as much as I do.... WOOP!
