Recently cut down and I just have my daughter’s pony - a Sec A that I’d have to lose half my body weight to ride ? I’m not overly missing riding but I want to do more than grooming. Any suggestions? He is broken to drive but that’s not something I’m able to get into right now, I’m too time poor to learn.

I’ve booked onto a Liberty clinic, it’s not something that’s appealed to me before but I’ll give it a go! Do people to TREC in hand? I’m dreadfully unfit so also thinking about some in hand hacking, maybe couch to 5k with a pony in tow.

I’m not very imaginative so any more recommendations would be appreciated

I am the loaner for a non-ridden WHW pony who was 14 when I got her and had done nothing but broodmare life and was basically unhandled.

I haven't ridden for 15 years due to health but couldn't be horseless after losing my 2 oldies but wanted to do more than just groom.

I taught her to follow me loose in the school and then over poles and in and out of cones. I taught her to 'lunge' at walk at the end of a long leadrope.

She now trusts me and is good in hand such that I've just bitted her and she may be going to a little riding club show to do the veteran in-hand class in August with a friend leading her.

Lots of different things to try. When I hurt my back and couldn't ride I did lots of obstacles with my pony following me, eventually he was loose. A little bit of Parelli, nothing too intense and long reining. I've heard there's a forum for none riding members, worth checking out.
Also I spent a bit of time painting the obstacles which was fun and relaxing.

Couch to 5k with the pony sounds good - then enter some in-hand Welsh classes, you'll both fly in the run-up!! (There's been more than one handler who've gone running training with their pony)

One of our tiny companions carried shopping home from the village shop. She was a real favourite at the shop and enjoyed it greatly. I lashed 2 children's rucksacks together and fixed over her pad-saddle - as long as you balance the load across both sides its fine.
