Does anyone know if the horse charities permit the loaning of a horse that cannot be ridden, but is wanted not strictly as a companion. I can not ride for much longer due to injury, but would love to have a horse to spoil, do a bit of groundwork, in-hand walks up the road, to be kept at a livery yard. I thought the charities may be my best bet-any thoughts??

I suppose the other option is a horse privately that cannot be ridden for whatever reason that wants a nice retirement? I just want something easy to handle on the ground primarily, and suppose that I would trust the charities more than some!! Do want a horse rather than a pony though!

I think you'll find it pretty easy to find a suitable horse tbh.

The charities, including ex-racehorse charities have horses available as companions only.

Also, as you say, if you decided to privately loan someone’s non-ridden horse, I'm sure you wont be looking for long. Our yard has a lot of non-ridden horses living here, mostly due to injury or age, but if someone was willing to offer a nice companion home, I'm sure many of those horses owners would bite your arm off!

The Blue Cross have loads of non-ridden companions available for loan and you also get help (can't remember the exact details) with worming and dental treatment I believe :)

I'm sure you'd have plenty of luck with the charities and also private owners.

There are plenty of horses around (I have one) who are unable to be ridden but would enjoy some pampering!
