Recently had a new saddle fitted for my lad, he's a 16.3hh ISH so wasn't the easiest job getting him a jumping saddle that doesn't restrict his rather large shoulders. Had the master saddler out who fitted him a Kent and Masters jump saddle, rather reluctantly handed over a large amount of money for it. Fits him very nicely but does slip backward a little. Would like to try a gel pad perhaps or some sort of pad to stop it slipping back for a while before a breastplate, ideally, as if a breastplate is tight enough to stop your saddle moving it can't be that comfortable for the horse can it?

Please could you recommend me a non slip pad? I've heard the Gel eze ones can rub the horses hair, has anyone experienced this?

Thank you :)

You can get very thin jelly like pads - Gel Eeze are thicker. But if your saddle is so recently fitted you might find any gel pad will alter the fit and pinch his shoulders. Might you be better of asking the saddler for his reccommendations given he fitted it? A newly and professionally fitted saddle should not slip back!

I use a Barnsby grip pad, expensive but works really well.

Had a quick google, am I right in thinking that they are a sort of pad built into the numnah? Does this alter the fit of the saddle at all and do you have a couple so one can be in the wash type thing? Happy to pay a little more if it's going to work :)

It is like neoprene on the top and mesh underneath, I have got two. I also have a Kent and masters saddle on my round cob, it stops it slipping. Saddler has checked saddle with pad and it hasn't altered the fit, they are not very thick or bulky.

I have a barsnby grip pad too, they are not particularly thick apart from the neoprene two pads on the type are a bit thicker than the rest, otherwise it is quite thin :-) works well and is breathable, don't like the look of the gel sticky ones as I think it would stop it moving with the horse's skin and muscles underneath, almost too non slip!

However the barnsby doesn't really fit a high wither saddle so a jumping saddle might not quite be lined up either.

would also reccomend Barnsby grip pad,I use it on my round, flat backed, non withered mare and its the only thing of many to work.
