non tilt horse lorry

Depends on what make it is and if any access hatches have been added. However,the phrase "Bloody nightmare" springs to mind.
 
My choice my mechanic wouldn't work on one as things are much more difficult to do. Additionally, more difficult equals more time & that means bigger bills. ;)
 
^More time= More money :)

But, as Mike said, some have hatches etc. My old renault Dodge had a bonnet type area and a flap/hatch in the cab to access the back and thus was no more difficult than a tilt cab.
 
They are a total nightmare if for instance a radiator needs replacing or access is required to the engine
There is absolutely no reason why horseboxes can not be made to allow the cab to fully tilt.
Service hatches do not allow sufficient access to the engine.
 
:-( thanks guys, not the answer i wanted but guess i knew really, desperately looking for new lorry, really nice as well.... back to the drawing board :-/
 
Well, ours is a P reg Ford Iveco and does not have a tilt cab. Our mechanic has never had any issues with doing any of the work on it and it has not been any more expensive as far as I am aware. Seek advice from whichever memechanic you're going to use to service it so you know what makes/models to avoid.

This, other than mine is an L reg. My mechanic loves my lorry and has never expressed any cause for concern. Maybe have a word with whoever will be dealing with it - after all, they are the one whose opinion matters. Good luck! :) x
 
Mine has not , it is old now they did not have tilt cabs when it was new .
It's never been an issue for me ,it will I am sure cost me more than a tilt to have stuff done as it will take them longer .
 
You are fine untill you have a problem!!! breakdown companys often wont attempt roadside repairs so you will be recovered!! even for something simple like running out of fuel ...engine work takes longer =double labour costs if the engine needs replacement then the front axle needs to come off or the cab unpicked so it will tilt and as most older lorrys arnt worth much this could make the repair uneconomic!!!! the other thing is the modern lorrys have lightweight fiberglass tilting lutons and the old non tilts are often very heavy, thankfully non tilt is a thing of the past ..
 
We have a non tilt leyland frieghter, hasn't caused us any problems so far but we do the work ourselves so time isn't a issue! Saying that my farther in law has said of we need to do anything majour he will convert it to a tilt cab!
