Nooo the flies hath arrived!

My poor horse was covered in horrible flies when I went down this evening ,because she is the colour of the sun she obviously attracts them more than the others, time to get out the fly rugs and repellent!

I had some global herbs 'fly free' which I put in and they both picked out the pony nuts and looked at me in disgust! It smells like barbecue sauce, mmm barbecue...
 
I've not seen any yet here but Leo has started tail swishing and acting as if there are flys about (he's quite sensitive and gets quite wound up by them :( )
 
Don't worry; give it a few days , the temperature will drop to sub-zero again and kill them all off! ;)
 
My BF works next door to the field and came back from his lunch break to say "The grey dude's allergic to mosquitoes, right? Well he's covered in them". Sprinted for the SI rug, as completely forgot I'd unrugged my big boys this morning!
 
Aww poor grey dude! I know mine doesn't have SI but still gets itchy as some of her tail hairs are broken at the top but she has a fabulous mane, only had her since October so haven't seen the worst of it, I wisely picked up a second hand fly rug, just got to stitch a strap back on and we're good to go!

We are near the river so we get loooads of the blighters! I hope they do get killed off by the cold, ha take that evil things!
 
We've got ticks already my poor boy had one behind his elbow which was removed and crushed to a manky paste :( He had an itchy lump for a couple of days but my OH smeared some herbal stuff on it and it went away so quickly! OH swears by this stuff and tbh I can see why :D
Also saw some midgeys last month but they were probably killed off by the frost... it does have it's uses! :D
 
Loads of midges here today - temp was up to 15 degrees. Hopefully the cold night (back down to 4 degrees at the moment) will stop the rampage, otherwise my poor boy will be in his SI rug tomorrow - poor lad he looked so content without it today, dozing in the sun.
