Just sitting in my lounge trying my hardest to finish off the last bits of my research work ready for my photography exhbition on friday. I've eaten two whole massive chocolate bars to keep me going and right now i'm bloomin glad I did... this 'lovely' photo of Ronnie has just come through on my facebook from my friend who's up at the fields now..apparently he's dead proud of himself, sauntering over wiggling his apple bum thinking he looks great.

He doesn't always look like a yack!

As far as I know, there are NO HIPPOS in Ireland and there certainly aren't any near him now so WHY OH WHY does he make a b-line for any muddy/water patch! If that pony doesn't have a hot bubble bath hiding somewhere ready to get in so he's clean for my arrival there will be SERIOUS trouble ;)

On a happier note.. RAIN AT LAST :D :D :D :D

My old chap used to do that.....I used to think "git" but had to laugh. With any luck the rain will wash some of it off before you get there.

He was so funny! He was very pleased of himself although he did try to wipe his muddy nose on my coat thank you very much ronnie!! The others wernt half as bad haha he's just covered in it all!

It's almost like they KNOW how infuriating it is to us? :D

Quick question, in his clean picture, how did you get his white bits so white?! Gorgeous boy by the way :) xx

Awh thank you! I'm afraid i'm a complete cheapy when it comes to grooming products lol :D .
I bathed him the other week and just used gallop stain remover shampoo you can get off the robinsons website and then a big bottle of apple smelling conditioner from Tesco own brand for like £1 as I always use so much on his mane, tail and feather! I have to admit the 'clean picture' was taken before any baths, I find that once you get them clean try and prevent any stains from sticking as much as you can. I use the cheapest own brand spray conditioner that probably exists (robinsons again!) and spray that on in the most likely to stain places such as his hocks, knees and withers. Baby oil is also good for his mane as being an Irish Cob he's got that wirey dry hair type and it knots so easily, also any muck is easy to brush out, works for his tail also :) I've heard of people using soap detergents and fairy liquid but i'd assume you'd have to a spot test first and I haven't tried it myself. Pig oil and Sulphur is also good for conditioning feather and keeps them clean when you wash it off as mud can't stick to it! I hope that helps, sorry for my lack of magic secrets! :)

It's a well known fact that St Patrick (said in a welsh accent) accidentally killed all of the hippos before he remembered he was supposed to get the snakes. To make up for his tragic mistake, he taught all Irish horses to seek out and 'engage with' any and all mud. He taught them how to dig away at even the driest field to create as much dirt as possible... to this day, Irish horses continue to honour St Patrick's teaching as much and as often as the can.

Trust me, I have a fine example of the very rare species/mud-seeking missile "Hippomaximus Gingerus" :D

Well that explains it then! :p I should feel honoured to have such a noble, and historically knowledgeable steed! :D :D :D How could I have been so foolish!?
