I have always been a confident rider but over the last 6 months my confidence has vanished and I am very nervous. I don't know why this has happened but I feel terrible :( I haven't ridden in ages because whenever I go to the yard I just chicken out! The horse I ride is quite green and now that I am nervous it makes him very nervous too which makes it all a lot worse. I don't want to give him up but he is wasted with me at the moment. I think riding another horse might help me.

I have been thinking about having lessons (at a riding school, not on my horse) but I don't know if it will help when it comes to hacking out on my own. Can anybody recommend a good riding school in Norfolk?

I also wondered if any freelance instructors were willing to give me a lesson with my horse but on a hack? Although they would have to walk along side so I don't know if they would be willing to do so!

My other thought was to find somebody who would either come with me when I ride my horse (either on their horse or on foot) for a bit of moral support or somebody with a nice horse I could build my confidence up on. Any offers? ;)

Does anyone have any other suggestions? All I want to do is go for a nice ride but I can't bring myself to do it and it's really getting my down :(

Ah, I'm down on the Suffolk border I'm afraid. I don't think I know anyone out that way either. Sorry:(

Can totally recommend Kensington Lodge Farm. I had a total confidence crash and whilst we were looking for a suitable horse for me I had lessons there. Bev was amazing, and within 4 weeks had me jumping 2'6 happily and cantering. She's brilliant!

Just googled Kensington Lodge Farm but looks quite far away from me! Thanks anyway :)

Such a shame you are all in other parts of the county!

I'm to the south of Norwich but one of my fellow liveries has an instructor who gives her instruction while out on a hack (she cycles alongside). If you are interested I will find a telephone number for you. There is also Strumpshaw Riding Centre to the east of Norwich although I don't know what they are like. Good luck it's horrible when you lose your confidence.

I agree with Red Hall Liveries, I learnt to ride there and keep my horse there.
my partner works there and often takes people out of hacks who have lost confidence and the instructors are amazing, lovely, very friendly people!
100% recommend!

I might give Redhall Liveries a call, it is a little bit far but closer to where I work so would be handy if they did evening lessons.

I will look into South Walsham as well as that's closer!

Thanks for all the replies, all I want to do is go and ride my horse but I just can't bring myself to do it :(

Red Hall do evening lessons, right till about 9pm some nights. Where are you based? I'd be happy to walk along with you while you hack :)

Umm im on Norfolk/Cambs boarder. The only one i can recommend is Blakborough End, Kings Lynn but thats a bit of a trek for you.
