Mine thinks he's a terrier (Irish setterrier perhaps!) and spends a lot of time rat hunting. Thankfully he's never flushed one out, as he'd be horrified if he was put in the situation of having to face up to one!

I saw this on FB last night & was reminded of the little JRT at the riding school in Dereham where I went in the barn one night to be met with a sea of rats, I've never seen anything so quick & efficient, bang, bang, bang, she broke their necks & dispatched them ; the loopy lucher just jumped on them& bounced, goodness knows how he didn't get bitten!

My Border terrier X who has never flushed out a rat as we don't seem to have many at the yard these days (mostly thanks to the Kestrel family and a feral cat) watches Youtube ratting videos with wide eyes, then runs around the house checking under all furniture "just in case" ... He'd definitely be game for it.

All our BTs have been keen ratters, determined, patient but usually a bit slow. In fact any small furry animal is fair game. A long time ago we had a gerbil which lived in a glass tank in the kitchen, out then BT used to sit and watch it for hours rather like watching television.
