Does anyone have any experience of Norfolk Terriers? They are very similar to Norwich Terriers but their ears are fitted on the other way :D OH wants a terrier and these little chaps seem to fit the bill nicely. I've got two beautiful whippets but he wants a 'small, scruffy terrier' who will go everywhere with him.
 
Not generally a small dog fan but I've known a couple of Norfolks and they've both been super little dogs. Usual terrier nature - lively, bright etc. and certainly no downsides in the ones that I have known. However, I'm sure there will be people on here far more familiar with the breed than I am!
 
Thanks camilla. I'm not a 'small dog' person either so that's why I need to be totally convinced I think :o I do think that the Norfolks look bright and busy little souls but I wouldn't want a yappy, snappy dog as I dislike them.
 
My mum's friend used to breed them, she doesn't any more but she may be able to help you, if you google Riannor and look on her website for her contact details.

I can't tell you anything as I've never had one although looked into them briefly before having Jack Russells :p
 
I have a Norfolk terrier (a rather bad example of one, but a Norfolk all the same!!) and he is great, he is not a yappy terrier, very loyal, and great sense of humour!

He thinks he is a big dog and comes across larger than he is (if you know what I mean) I have the slightly longer legged one.

Im a definate fan of the breed, but im biased as love all terriers.

Yes, that's pretty much the impression I had. I think the "big dog in a small dog's body" is pretty much a standard terrier trait but certainly the two I knew were not at all yappy and had very sweet natures. They were completely unrelated too. They are also seriously cute as puppies!!
 
Mum has had 2, only one left now tho :(. Both were super cute, bright, fun to be with, very very good with kids and other dogs. They love to go everywhere with you, real constant companion type. Hers are good with cats too. They adore going to walks and have very good recall despite never having a day's training in their lives. Neither was hyperactive or bouncy but then again they didn't come from that sort of home - they slept a lot and were just happy to be with their mum.

I have a JRT x NT and he is the most wonderful dog I could ever have hoped for, and my dad had the father who again will go down as the best dog my dad has ever had. Can't really say why, but they are super special :D

They do come in various shapes and sizes - mum's are small and ginger, mine and dad's were bigger (more Corgi shape) and black and tan.

They are also very hard to find for sale! We had months of searching via all sorts of 'closed networks' and ended up with a breeder in, surprise surprise, Norfolk! but we had to sign papers to say we wouldn't breed from the little girl. They seem to find it hard to get pregnant and have very small litters, often just one pup, so the girls are like golddust! You'd probably have more luck finding one needing rehoming, or an NT cross.

I know they're not lol, thought I said that in my last post lol, if you contact her she may know of any reputable breeders with puppies or planning puppies. She'd definitely be able to answer any questions you may have on the breed :D
 
Thanks everyone :) There is a lady up in the village who breeds Norfolks. I met her a couple of weeks ago when she was on our quiz team (we won because the quiz was all about dogs :D ) and someone told me that she was judging at Crufts this year. I hope eventually to get a pup from her but I'm in no hurry (fortunately :p ) as litters are usually very small so you have to go on a waiting list to stand any chance. I will also keep my eyes open for a rescue.
