I am thinking of buying a normandy cob x percheron - does anyone know whether they get more problems with lameness due to their size? I have only known one normandy cob before and he had severe arthritis of the knees and was unrideable by the age of 15. Any thoughts/advice very welcome...

I did know a percheron, he sadly died last last year aged 30. He lived a very hard life as a farm/plough horse until the age of 15, at which point he was moved to england, where developed ringbone at about age 22 from which point his work load decreased, until he was retired at about 28 years old. He also had very poor conformation, which was a contributory factor to the arthritis, his age was also unknown until he was about 25, which meant he was worked harder than he should have been.

Sorry for the poor grammer in the post, typing quick and dont have time to check. But basically I dont think he did bad considering his environment & dont think you should be put off
