Normal horse cost

You're looking at upwards of £9K plus easily at the moment - and quite rightly so - these types of horses are mega hard to find and seldom ever come up on the market.....

I've been at both ends of the spectrum - I paid £650.00 for my now retired lad but he came with so many problems and health issues we maxed out the insurance policy and my insurance company actually rang me up and informed me they were cancelling my policy because "There's nothing left that we can insure on your horse" 🫣

On the other hand - I paid £6,000.00 for my rising 2 year old who is everything and more I could ever want in a future horse. I am lucky though that I'm based on a yard where the owner and other liveries have a combined talent pool which handily also includes backing horses as most of the horses on the yard were backed and ridden away by their current owners - I take regular lessons and am always open to advice and help too.

But back to the question - I always say to ask yourself how would you feel if the horse you viewed was sold - would you be gutted or impartial - that is usually a good indicator of how you feel the viewing went :)

Depends on what size - I bought a 4 yo cob type 14.2hh been broken 6 months, takes up the leg well and ive seen similar for about 4.5k atm, needed a year to settle and bring on, but were hacking about happily solo and in company, shes quite forward as this is how i've trainer her and now out doing intro dressage, pops a few jumps, fun rides... depends if you're quite tall or have a preference for something finer ( shes more sensible than the older ones I tried! )

Id love to know how much she is worth now Ive brought her on xD

Bigger / sportier you're looking 7/8k

I paid £600 for my lovely mare 😅 she is an ex race horse, but she was a good, solid happy hacker for 6yrs with me, we did jumping and fun rides too, and a bit of handy pony, then went on loan where she was a hacker and did some jumping with a confident teenager.
She's back with me after 2yrs. I hope to start hacking again after I lose the weight I gained while she was gone. We're having great fun in hand at the moment.
I realise I'm probably in the minority to have such a wonderful horse for so cheap, but they are out there 😁
We probably all bought similarly priced horse back in the day, before Covid pushed all the prices up. I know I did.
OP if you liked her and can afford her, get her vetted quickly
