Hello,
Sorry to maybe sound a bit thick asking this, but what do people use for Inhand at higher local level? We have a Section B and have always just used her normal snaffle bridle...been doing really well but I've started to notice that the "Champions" in these shows have very smart inhand bridles...am thinking I need to invest in one of these but don't want to waste my money !!!! x
Thanks in advance for any help xx

An in-hand bridle is preferable but a ridden bridle is acceptable if the pony is of ridden age and looks much better with a Pelham/double so you have 2 sets of reins than a single snaffle.

Local-mid level if pony is 4yrs or other either would be ok. If using a ridden bridle I would always use reins and if using an inhand bridle use a coupler and lead rein - don't mix the two

Under four years then an inhand bridle/filly slip/white halter is normal

At higher levels ponies do seem to be shown in inhand bridles (horses aren't always depending on type)

What I would say is that the bridle should compliment the head, a smart ridden bridle will always look better than a cheap inhand bridle with a naff flimsy nose band

I ended up buying an inhand bridle and changing the browband and having a flat noseband attachment made

Alternatively as your pony is a mare you could use a white halter

Plas Equestrian make nice halters and inhand bridles for welshies

the most important bit is not mixing the two you need a proper lead rein on and in hand bridle and a double reined bridle on one of riding age younger than 4 you shouldnt use a riding bridle Hunters and riding horses over 4 when shown in hand usually have double bridles. Natives /section b are usually in in hand bridles with couplings and a leather lead rein and highly polished brass fittings including bit rings
