Hearing about the weather at Blair and the number of events cancelled this weekend how big a difference is there in weather from north to south? Many places ‘down south’ seem to have experienced a hot and sunny summer whilst ‘up north’ say from Yorkshire upwards it seems to have rained for the last six months, so is it a south to north or east to west situation?
Where would you live to ensure a sunny summer and dry winter preferably gale free?

We've had, at best, a handful of hot days down here in the south west, otherwise it's been pretty wet.
Same on the south coast. Weather is still quite mild, but it rarely goes all day without either wind or rain :( I've probably worn just a T shirt (with bottoms obviously 🙄)for about 2 weeks in total and there's been 2 days where I've thought I really must get my flip flops out.

I'm in East Anglia and until yesterday it hadn't rained for weeks! My fields are rock hard and brown.

Also been pretty warm too, I do find though that if you want sunny, warm and dry in the UK then East Anglia is your best bet.

Had 2 x dollops of real rain in the last 18 days. Both v heavy, I for an evening and the other all day yesterday. Other odd random showers previously but nothing of note.
I've used my waterproof coat twice at the yard since early June, sorry! Only worn a sleeved top a couple of times, this morning when it was 9 degrees at 7am for a bit and last Monday at 6 when similar temp.
Ground like concrete at the yard still, most water has just run off, some has encouraged grass growth tho, but not softened the ground.
Arid NW Surrey......

I used to live near Birmingham and I really noticed the difference when we moved back to the south east. It's a lot drier here.

Yesterday was grim but 20mm of water has soaked away pretty quickly.

North West gets all America's cast off weather two weeks after America gets it. It moves from America across the Atlantic. If you move across the Pennines, it may be a bit drier, but then there is the wind that blasts across the North sea. Not sure there is any escape from weather in the UK!
And when you're on top of the Pennines you get it from both Siberia and America!

Really? I live on the south coast as my name suggests and we’ve had some lovely weather. My sister was over in June and it was warm and sunny for the whole two weeks. I missed a week of not so nice weather when I was housebound with shingles but I’ve been boiling doing the horses in shorts and a T-shirt ever since and was actually looking forward to cooler weather. It was wet and windy yesterday but today is mostly nice if a bit windy. Tomorrow looks more settled.

Abroad??
In all seriousness, the UK does not have guaranteed sunny summer and dry, windy free winters.

Whether you think it is man made or part of a natural cycle (!), climate change is happening.
Winters are becoming wetter, warmer and windier. Summers are very unpredictable - huge temperature variants from week to week, and many more storms and gales hitting.

The best you can do is prepare for it- all weather turnout, create natural shelters and wind blocks. If you're on livery, try and find places with an indoor arena or at least one close by.

Or, sometimes tempting, drop the horses altogether! Enjoy being one of the people who can sit and judge the weather from a well insulated, temperature controlled, energy efficient house that you don't need to leave to slog out the weather with horses!

I'm west of you and I don't think we've had many hot days at all! Granted it hasn't been cold, but it's hardly summer weather that we used to get. I'm comparing it to the summer of 2020 when there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was marvellous.

I have a fleece on today, but slightly damp as we've had a shower 🙄

I’m in Suffolk and we had rain yesterday which was the first for ages. The ground needed it but is still rock hard round here. I think East Anglia is supposed to be the driest county

We’ve had a cold summer up in the north of Scotland. I don’t know that it’s felt like masses of rain but barely being over 15 degrees means the grounds not dried up like it usually would. My fields resemble what they should look like in October but my summer fields have tons of grass so not particularly worried yet.

Early summer I was in hat and gloves, but haven't worn a jacket for weeks. Today its like a hairdryer on low, setting a warm breeze and I keep falling down the cracks in the ground. If we do get some rain there could be a second cut of hay.

It's been really dry here Hertfordshire until yesterday and we had a day and night of torrential rain, but the week looks dry and hot last look at summer for us I think 🤔

First time I wore pyjamas last night🤣🤣

I'm in W Somerset and I think I missed the only few days of very hot weather when I stupidly went to Cornwall in June I think it was, and on a couple of occasions, I was glad I had my long puffa winter coat in the van.

We had a few hot days 3 weeks ago but the rest of the time it's been mainly windy and coldish. A vendor at the local food fair said places like Bude had been a washout for him this summer with the winds.

As I write, I have a vest top, t shirt, wool polo neck and puffa waistcoat on with jeans, and I'm in my kitchen with the door to garden open. I'm comfortable.

West Midlands here, very close to Welsh border. It’s been wet this summer but not as bad as last year! Generally very cool though with the odd few days of warm. Don’t move to this part of the world if you don’t like rain!! Hadn’t anticipated it when we moved from the eastern side of the country!

I think everyone suffered from a dreadful autum/winter/spring last year!
