North west area. Why do so many people have to have horses sedated

I am in the north west, and my horse didnt get sedated when he had his teeth done about 3 weeks ago.
I dont think anyone on my yard needed there horses sedating either.

OOOHH.....fourlegged.....dont get shirty. I'll come do your horse if you wanna pay me......Im confident I could.

Im not saying that I dont agree with sedation....I do...I get horses sedated....when there is a REAL need for it...anything other than routine maintainance treatment e.g. wolf teeth extractions, fillings, periodontal treatment, use of power instruments etc, etc, etc,....its an Instrument, as important in the efficient treatment of some probles as any other instrument ......I just know from experience that far too many horse are sedated when they dont need to be if choice of practitioner were considered.

If your horse kicks his stable down....dont treat him in his stable...he obviously doesnt feel comfortable (for whatever reason) in there whilst having dental treatment. A sound understanding of equine psycology (NOT NH or parelli or whatever yo wanna lable it as)...should be held by anyone who wants to do such things to horses. Im not commenting specifically in your horses cases because I aint seen him..or..her and cant possibly make an assessement. And yes...it is your horse and your choice...no argument...and no one is criticising you.

All Im saying is that you could save yourself unessecarry costs....IF YOU WANTED TO.....by choosing the right practitioner...or maybe you couldnt.

Ive saved people HUNDREDS of pounds. I just dont see the moralistic value of bumping the bill up just because you dont know how to handle horses.

I have 3 horses, two didn't ever need sedating, but one wouldn't let you get near his mouth when I bought him. He needed sedating but he is so much better with his mouth (now lets me look inside etc.) and last time his teeth were done without sedation. He was a model patient

However my vet is a qualified EDT (and used to teach I believe) and I think he is brilliant.

For what it's worth I would prefer a difficult horse to be sedated because I don't want to be hurt, don't want the vet hurt and I want a proper job done which I think is very difficult with a horse pratting around.
