Stunning and yes, you are very lucky to have such country side around you. My surrounding countryside is beautifull too but just in a different way lol

Us Gloucestershire Folk also think that Yorkshire is Gods own Country thats why we are going there in September and staying in a cottage opposite the entrance to Nidderdale Show. Should have seen OH gulp when I said oh look its Nidderdale show on Monday beaming from ear to ear.

Not the moors I know but the Dales a pretty funky green cool too.

Much as I like it here in our South Cambridgeshire village I really miss my home County of Yorkshire. We are life members of the GYS, so go back every July for the show and meet old friends. Usually manage to fit the odd drink in at some of our old haunts ,especially Masham. North Yorkshire is so beautiful what ever the weather.

Beautiful!
Sis and I rode one of our short hacks round a local beauty spot, which looks very similar to your 2nd photo (although we're not in North Yorks) and were very annoyed to find that people who park up to eat their lunch have been throwing their litter into the heather. Grr!

Wow :O
Jenhunt: Plleeassseee let me ride out with you Lol It looks AMAZING there!
Im a yorkshire lass but it isnt like that in my corner of Yorkshire Lol

Gorgeous. We don't have scenery down here, it's all just flat and dull. I want to go back to Scotland :( Or compromise half way in Yorkshire :p

Very jealous!

Lovely pics I have thought of riding up there before.

I noticed where you live, do you take your horse transport up Sutton Bank, its what has put me off in the past.

We drove up to Whitby last week. It takes 4.5 hours in the car, but I love it for that view alone.
Hubby kept saying, "what?" because I kept gasping at the beauty of it.
Wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing them.

Rockysmum - the answer is not if i can help it, though I know lots of people who do. If I need to get up there I go up the coxwold caravan route. It's still a bit steep but not nearly so bad as the bank!

I'm also lucky enough to live on the North York Moors. The heather this year is truly spectacular, I don't remember seeing it so beautiful before.

I was thinking just the same! And, credit to the keepers, I've never ever seen so many grouse on the moors until this year either. There's millions of the little alarm clocks!

Tammytoo - the ride was last weekend - we had about 30 riders go round (not bad we thought for a first one!) all said they'd really enjoyed it and we made £400 for the hunt!

Any one who wants to come out for a hack with me is more than welcome, I love to have company, even if it does make Ron a bit silly! :D

North Yorkshire Moors are fantastic! We can hack one way up on to the moors and another way to the beach... We are soooo lucky! I do need to go up and see the heather, hopefully it will be a bit drier this weekend.
The heather is fab this year, but yes today you can't see it for the horizontal rain!!!

Can i ask which part of Yorkshire your pics are of specifically? Last year I took my horse to Yorkshire and stayed in South Otterington and went off for the day hacking, but didn't get to go accross the moors, but was lucky enough to hack next to them.

Now my boyfriends parents own a cottage in Swaledale so hoping I can persuade him to let me take her there (he's allergic to horses). It looks fab hacking.

A word of warning ------
Up we went to see the purple-flowering heather today, well you would not believe it but the last time the horses went up on the moors the heather wasn't purple... OMG!!!!! Purple heather is obviously extremely dangerous and harbours deadly horse-eating foes, because as soon as our horses set eyes on it we had to cling on for dear life due to spooking, spinning and general galloping off in the wrong direction!!!! It took a whole lot of calming down to persuade them it was safe, and then both horses spooked at every tiny movement among it.

Be very careful if you choose to venture among the purple weed.....

Isn't NYM fantastic? :) I'm doing my dissertation up there on tick borne diseases in pheasant and grouse - it's fairly 'ticky' this year, so just be aware and do check yourselves and your animals as we picked a few up on us! :o:o
It is beautiful - we were working around Bransdale, Harland, Hawnby, Arden Tripsdale and Cammon Stone.
The keepers are ace, they said the grouse numbers are brilliant this year and as far as I am aware there has been a few shoots already.
