North York Moors in the sunshine

A word of warning ------
Up we went to see the purple-flowering heather today, well you would not believe it but the last time the horses went up on the moors the heather wasn't purple... OMG!!!!! Purple heather is obviously extremely dangerous and harbours deadly horse-eating foes, because as soon as our horses set eyes on it we had to cling on for dear life due to spooking, spinning and general galloping off in the wrong direction!!!! It took a whole lot of calming down to persuade them it was safe, and then both horses spooked at every tiny movement among it.

Be very careful if you choose to venture among the purple weed.....

What is it about purple? When I'm out hacking the one colour that makes my mare take avoiding action is blue or purple flowers!

PS better not tell all the gardeners who grow heather that it's a weed!:D

Jenhunt - I'm a bit slow, after I posted my comment I realised the ride was last week - Doh!

My boy doesn't like purple either... flowers, showjumps..

Lovely pictures, I *think* I can just about remember what sunshine is but although the hacking is equally as good as here, the weather isn't!

Can i ask which part of Yorkshire your pics are of specifically? Last year I took my horse to Yorkshire and stayed in South Otterington and went off for the day hacking, but didn't get to go accross the moors, but was lucky enough to hack next to them.

Now my boyfriends parents own a cottage in Swaledale so hoping I can persuade him to let me take her there (he's allergic to horses). It looks fab hacking.

OH and I live about 5 mins from south otterington, but the horses are about 20 minutes further north!

We would love to! Next HHO ride venue decided I think...;)

definitely!

Isn't NYM fantastic? :) I'm doing my dissertation up there on tick borne diseases in pheasant and grouse - it's fairly 'ticky' this year, so just be aware and do check yourselves and your animals as we picked a few up on us! :o:o
It is beautiful - we were working around Bransdale, Harland, Hawnby, Arden Tripsdale and Cammon Stone.
The keepers are ace, they said the grouse numbers are brilliant this year and as far as I am aware there has been a few shoots already.
K x

Arden is the one nearest us I guess, the ride went over the snilesworth estate which is bordered by arden, and raisdale estates. Hawnby and Arden are truly beautiful aren't they!

Ron hate's purple too but heather doesn't seem to bother him - I think he forgets about it as being up there means a good gallop! :D

If the first statement is true then I dont think Roo can :(
I cant gallop her on her legs, their too weak now, poor girl

We were up at the NYM railway today on the steam train :D Lol The heather looks so beautiful!
