Potentially looking to move to North Yorkshire area within a 10 mile radius of Northallerton. Or around the rosedale/ Pickering area.

Can anyone suggest any good livery yards with individual turnout, arena, off road hacking, winter turnout. Indoor school, but not essential.

Also if anyone could message me directly any yards that they wouldn’t suggest. I will be very new to the area so would like a heads up about anything.

Thank you so much.

Move to Northallerton area as you will have a better choice of yards..and Northallerton equestrian centre. I looked at moving to Pickering/ Helmsley area and there was only one yard I would consider and very few places in general, I didn’t find any indoor schools.

Thank you. That’s great information. Any information more than welcome!

I have no direct knowledge but:
Hamley Hagg at Appleton-le-moors, about 10 mins drive from Pickering, is large but with great facilities (inc indoor) and very good hacking, plus everyone seems happy to be there, unusual for a large yard.
There are quite a few smaller yards dotted around but most of those won’t have much in the way of facilities, many will have good hacking though. There is a yard with good outdoor school just outside Helmsley.

If you mainly like competing and good access to competition venues then it would be best to head for the Northallerton area. Helmsley/Rosedale is a beautiful part of the country, but there is extra travel involved in getting to venues.

I'm very near Helmsley and ride all over between here and the coast - it's true that there aren't many formal livery yards on the bottom edge of the moor. As @teacups says there are more smaller ones, with great access to all the lovely BWs but nothing by way of facilities. Re the ones others have mentioned, Hamley Hagg does have direct access to fantastic hacking. The yard outside Helmsley with the outdoor school is smart and has good facilities but if TO is a priority, it might not be for you (the paddocks are very small and I have no idea what their winter arrangements are).

There's a real dearth of indoors around here - when I needed one for a saddle fitting earlier this year I trailered out to near Scarborough.

I'd say it depends what you want to prioritise - if you want to spend your time enjoying amazing hacking, keep sniffing around the Helmsley to Pickering area. If you'd rather have a more formal yard, better facilities and access to competition, then Northallerton area is a better bet.

Agree. Though re indoors: you can hire the ones at Friar’s Hill in Sinnington, and there is also one in Nawton which can be hired. I think the one at Hamley Hagg can be hired by non liveries too.

Well that will make winter saddle checks a LOT easier! I had heard rumours of one in Nawton but then someone said they didn't hire it anymore. That might well be totally inaccurate though so I will ask around.

I’d need to check whether the one at Nawton can still be hired or not, too!

Sorry to jump on the thread I’ve been looking at yards for DIY livery in nawton (hopefully moving there in a couple of months) and I can’t find any, is there anyone on here that would know of any? Thanks!

Nawton Beadlam, not Norton - Malton? Just checking. I'm not aware of anything in Nawton but MBF Liveries at Hamley Hagg would be a good bet, that's only 15 minutes' drive.
