I haven't posted on here for 6 weeks or so as my mare has had a bit of a virus so not been riding her. She also seemed to be in season constantly so had her ovaries checked which all came back clear thank god, but a worrying time. Anyway started getting back into work 10 days ago and took her to her first show on Sunday. The Area 19 BSJA show which had a discovery qualifier for the Blue Chip Championships.
I went not expecting very much as she can be very spooky particularly when she hasn't been jumped for a while. I did the 1m speed warm up class and although she was a bit "looky", she jumped round really well for a nice clear. We didn't got fast but was very pleased with 6th place.
There were about 30 in the qualifier so not the big numbers you get at other shows. The course was quite nice but some fairly spooky fillers and the last fence was very spindly poles on flat cups. My girl jumped great for another clear. I totally overrode the last fence and did far too much fiddling but she was very careful for me. Only 6 got through to the jump off and I was drawn 5th to go luckily. tThere weren't that many turns that you could do so I just went for a forward clear and to my amazement went into 1st and stayed there!! I cannot believe I have qualified for the Blue Chip Champs! We got a sash and a bottle of wine for winning too which was a very nice touch.
Thanks for reading and sorry for self-indulgent post!
